    Exactly. They're shooting for the, it's just a pistol thing. They've already got AR pistols. http://www.springfield-armory.com/products/saint-ar-15-pistol-5-56/

    This is just the next step to say why bother with the 26" overall length. After all, it's just a pistol.

    I've got a pistol or two that have rifled barrels much shorter than the ones being talked about here. They're also considerably shorter.

    The following 4 things define a rifle. It doesn't have at least one of them, while not falling into definition of something else.

    1) Fired from shoulder
    2) Made to use energy of an explosive
    3) fires single projectile through rifled bore
    4) single pull of trigger

    It looks like it has a binary trigger so maybe they are saying that since it has more than one round per trigger pull it's not a rifle. It's still only one round per "operation" so it's not a MG.
