I usually stay out of these heated threads... but good grief. It seems like the tin foil hats are coming out.

If anyone thinks we could possibly get to a point where there would be absolutely no gun restrictions, they are delusional. Folks it's not going to happen. No matter how you quote the 2A. Texas currently allows concealed carry, and perhaps will allow open carry at some point, but it's not going to be for every Tom, Dick, Harry or Jane out there. You're going to need to demonstrate you are of sound character, have a clean record and know how to shoot a 40' semi trailer at 7 yards. Then there will be (IS) a fee for the state to administer that. I don't have a big issue with any of that. I don't want felons walking out of a 10 year stint in Huntsville, being able to carry a gun. Not to say they won't... we know that doesn't work, but I'm not one to sanction that.

So that's my position and if you don't like it... well you know how that goes.

This is a right that was not created for self defense or shooting sports. It was created to defend against tyranny. The very institution that the 2nd amendment was designed to protect us from is limiting us and granting themselves privileges. This is a BAD BAD week for the second amendment in Texas.

Why arn't some of you pissed off about this BS?

    Who says we are not?

Whining on the Internet doesn't solve anything, focus your energy on contacting your legislators and informing other gun owners so they can do the same.

Meh, I think I'll fall to sleep okay tonight. Especially knowing I've got a .45 in my night stand, and my regular carry gun in ready for the am.

Thanks, I am glad that someone (well, several folks on here) are the voice of reason. I have been trying to find a nice way to counter some of the ridiculous comments others are continuously making such ludicrous claims on here, but I could not be so clear and elegant as you have, my friend.

Seriously, is this becoming a tin-hat forum? If so, please give us advance warning so we can take our rational discussions about firearms someplace else. I've seen too many good forums go under because some conspiracy theorists join in to preach their ridiculous concepts. There are plenty of other places for like-minded lunatics to have those discussions. I joined here for some grown-up discussions about owning firearms and shooting in Texas, which I thought this forum was about; but with the flood of far left conspiracies that seem to continually pop up here like weeds in the lawn I am beginning to think otherwise...

I tell ya what, KAK, spend a week in California, New York or Chicago and then come back and tell us how bad things are here. Until then, as TXI has stated, you really don't get it...

Better yet, spend a week in Arizona and see how the 2nd amendment does apply to everybody who chooses to exercise it.
Even yet, just go to New Mexico for a few day's and carry a gun on your hip. I do everytime im there.
The 2nd amendment "Does" apply to everyone without criminal restrictions.

In several ways both of those states are more restrictive than Texas, in regards to firearm and use of force laws.

I would love for you to explain further about Arizona.

    Here are a few examples:

In AZ signs must be obeyed, and there is not a specific archetype. "No gun" signs must be obeyed.

You can't carry on the property of a school (sidewalks etc) and you can only carry in the parking lot inside your car if the gun is unloaded. Even with a license.

Public locations are allowed to ban carry.

No immunity from civil liability if your use of deadly force is found to be justified under the criminal code

No defense for the use of deadly force to retrieve property from a fleeing criminal

That sounds pretty good really. My issue is that we cant pass even basic things like campus carry, it is alarming to me that we couldnt.

I am completely bewildered by the texas ledgislature system. With all of the committees and such. I dont understand the whole picture. So this legislation dying during a fairly dominant pro gun legislature makes me scared that we cant get any improvements.

Remember we still don't have a supermajority in the Senate. 2 Socialist Senators from urban districts are holding up the bill by welching on their promise of support.

So basically they need 2/3 to pass then. This is what gave those scumbag piece of shit legislators the power they had to shut it down. There is not a chance in hell these guys would vote for OC or employer parking lots unless they water them down to uselessness again.

What we need to do is pass a bill changing that stupid rule.
