We started my bro ( rip 1962-07) and i when we were 6-7 respectively
On a daisy lever then crossman 760 powermaster
Then on a stevens .410 then we got another daisy.
The .410 and the last daisy sit here in my safe now!!
My grandson just turns one on the 18th of this month
He will get to go with me when he is 2-3 just to look.
If he likes it then when he is 4-6 we can start on the bb gun.
I am working on his first 1911 engraved ( colt of course)
His b- day name on the slide from grandpa on the grips

This is a good question. I am starting my two year old out with airsoft when he is old enough to hold the pistol and rifle and control it.

So I expect closer to 5 or 6

But this is a thread about shooting. You told me you killed that first deer by jumping out of a tree, landing on its back, and slitting its throat with your Kabar.

I knew my lies would catch up to me sooner or later, lol.....

when they have to pull the bottle out of their mouth to get a good aim , might be a little young. but at 12 they are ready to learn the responsibility in being around guns. if they learn to respect them at an early age they will carry it with them their whole lives. Get with them and get shootin!

Took my son for the first time over Thanksgiving, he just turned 4 and could properly mount the rifle. We practiced with the rifle a bit before heading to the field and had the simple rules downpat. We setup a stick with balloons stapled to it in front of the berm and shot for about an hour before stopping. He had a great time working with the rifle, a single shot Crickett, and going back and forth with me, sharing the rifle. It was a three-fer, sharing, shooting, and saftey. I was very proud of his trigger control, only one time I had to remind him here his finger went when he wasn't on target yet.

By the very end, he was able to hit a balloon without too much help from me and was very excited. Iron sights are a bit too difficult at that age, hard to describe the process and do it accurately with the sights on that rifle, so I'm mounting a scope for the next time we go shooting. We're already working on drawing proper sight pictures. I need to thread the end of it so I can put my can on it so we only have to wear shooting glasses, even with subsonics it is too loud for him to not wear protection in my opinion.
