Liberalism seems to be the one big single "problem" affecting nearly every facet of our society negatively.
I love finding out that there are young people with enough sense to see this as the problem that it is. Liberalism (as we have labeled it) is a cancer on our society that will do our great country in if it isn't kept in check.

The groups that we label as Liberals are actually Socialists in very thin disguise. Their "comprehensive utopian visions" have never worked for very long in any place on earth that they have tried them. Century after century, they crater catastrophically but facts are totally irrelevant to them so they forge ahead with their glassy eyed "we care so we are better than you" agenda. Their ideology is doomed to fail over and over... But we are the evil ones. Just ask.

You would be amazed at how many young people say they are liberal just because being "conservative" sounds like you are 90 and don't want anyone to have any fun. Or maybe you wouldn't.

If you ask the majority of college students what their beliefs about certain issues are (gun "control", etc), and then ask whether they are liberal or conservative, you would want to smack them upside their head after they tell ya. People are idiots.

Well, for a little while I thought maybe I was liberal, however at the time I did not have a complete understanding what liberal and conservative meant exactly. I know now that I am a conservative, libertarian, and somewhat a Republican (not without their faults, but heck of a lot better than the Dem's!).

The thing that strikes me as one of our biggest problems in this country (man I think I use that line a lot) is the fact that it seems liberals want to try as hard as possible to instill their values in schools and ultimately into our kid's minds which I see as a very serious and dangerous possibility. Already, from what I have seen of generations younger than mine, it is already a drastically different society they are growing up in compared to when I grew up (in the 80's and early 90's). I've seen an unsettling number of younger kids that seem to have been brainwashed by this liberal, nonsensical mentality. Honestly I think it is just plain wrong. Parents need to raise their kids, schools should not be allowed to "brainwash" your (I'm speaking generally, not about anyone here) kids. When a learning institution actually starts biasing your children and trying to take over some of the responsibilities of parents, that's when I feel they have crossed the line. Unfortunately there are probably a great many parents out there that don't care enough and actually like the idea of the schools taking the burden off their shoulders. I say raise your d@mn kids, give 'em a spanking if they need one, teach them right from wrong, but always let them know you love them and hope that you've done enough. My parents spanked me when I was a little hooligan, and I don't think I've turned out half bad; possibly a bit lazy though. ;)

    Gun Control

I think sometimes we are too quick to put a label on an individual. If someone doesn't like guns they are labeled as a bleeding heart liberal. If someone owns more than one gun they are some kind of psychopathic killer. But many times a person opposed to guns has just not been around them.

Here's an example of my point. I'm dating a gal that is a British citizen but she spends most of her time here in Texas. She has never even seen a firearm in anything but the movies. She expressed an interest in going to the deer lease with me so I figured why not....but anticipated a total train wreck in our relationship over this. She loved riding around in my hunting Jeep and had a ball. Then I pulled out my duffel bag to get my camera and she noticed the 3 pistols I was carrying. At first she was aghast that I was carrying them around. She stared at that bag like it was full of rattlesnakes!! She finally asked, "Can I hold it?" and I said of course. She was totally mesmerized by the feel of it and finally asked if she could shoot it. I told her the .357 Blackhawk might be a little too much for her 4' 11" frame and pulled out my Ruger stainless .22. I gave her the basic safety instructions....put out some beer cans and let her fire away. She ended up burning up all my .22 ammo and had a ball!!! In the span of an hour she went from fearing guns...thinking they were evil....to wanting to shoot every gun that I owned.

My point is that in my lifetime Texas has gone from a mostly rural state to an urban state. Kids no longer grow up wanting a .22 single shot rifle when they turn 12. Firearms are a mystery to them and they think of them as evil....only something to kill people with.

Our goal as sportsmen and shooters should be to educate the public and try our best to make shooting accesible to all. Once we do that...the vast majority of people will become more tolerate of our sport and will support gun ownership rather than want to prohibit it. Local 4H and FFA clubs used to have shooting as one of their projects. I haven't checked but I'd bet that it is no longer available. So we MUST get the kids exposed to hunting, fishing and the outdoors if we are to hold on to our gun ownership rights.

Who knows...maybe some day this forum will be able to sponser a "Kid Shoot" at a range. If we don't take steps like this...our gun ownership is doomed...perhaps within our lifetime.

I agree wholeheartedly. I'm actually working on getting my mother to go with me to a shooting range. She has never shot a gun before, and I don't believe she's even ever held one before and is deathly afraid of things like this. Even if people still ultimately don't like guns per se, after experiencing them, at least teaching them gun safety is one very positive aspect.
