    Howdy!

The last Belgian I spoke with had nothing but an extreme hatred of the United States.

Accused us of the Genocide of Native Americans, said we could have starved Japan instead of dropping the Atomic Bombs on them, derided us for our military campaigns in Viet Nam, Cambodia, and Iraq.

Said our American Beer tasted like piss.

I shall not visit the sins of your brother onto you.

    You are still welcome here.

    Be well!

Having lived there for three years, the vast majority of Belgians still remember our liberating them during WWII and are still grateful. In fact, re-enacting is a big hobby there and you wouldn't believe the number of WWII vehicles tucked away in barns throughout that country. For the most part, we were treated very well by the Belgians even during the beginning stages of the Iraq war. Same went with the French, although I doubt they were treated so nicely in this country!

Accused us of the Genocide of Native Americans, said we could have starved Japan instead of dropping the Atomic Bombs on them, derided us for our military campaigns in Viet Nam, Cambodia, and Iraq.

Except for a small crowd of protesters at the front gate of SHAPE during the start of the latter conflict, there wasn't any bad feelings towards Americans that I was aware of.

Said our American Beer tasted like piss.

Well, they're absolutely right on that one; so I don't see how anyone could criticize them for being honest!

    You are still welcome here.

I am sure he's happy that he's gotten your seal of approval! :D

I am truly embarrassed by the conduct of that person. That's one of the drawbacks of democracy, any fool can blurt out anything they want.
Everybody who has the slightest knowledge of history knows the US saved us from the Germans (twice) and kept the Russians out of the door.
If you know that at some point, 16 million men and women were serving as US personnel in the second world war, I can only say: thank you! And I mean it.

As with everything, we are subjected to what the media tells us. People are essentially lazy and rarely able to distinguish fact form propaganda.
It's very easy to criticize the US for intervening somewhere when our own government lacks the balls to do anything but call each other names. Let's face it, we Belgians (and Europeans in general) are cowards. I wish it weren't so.

Starving Japan, sheez. As if that wouldn't have cost millions of lives. The atomic bombs were necessary. It's really sad for the innocent Japanese people who perished, but you can't make an omelette without breaking eggs. I've read a lot about Japanese culture during the Showa era and they were not going to give up. Besides, the USSR was more than willing to invade the rest of western Europe. Hte show of force of the US military was needed, and as a result of the MAD doctrine, brought us peace and prosperity by keeping the world powers in balance.

So please take it from me. Take it from someone who saw the gas chambers in Auschwitz, who had the honor to be guided in Fort Breendonk by a former inmate who had been tortured there for two years, take it form a descendant of a family that lost half of it's members in WW2 at the hands of the nazis: you did good, and I will never disavow the sacrifice you made for us.

One of my coworkers in Dallas has a 23 year old serving in the army. He was deployed to Iraq in 2010 and 2011. I could see the anguish she felt every day, hoping her son would come back in one piece. But that's a story you'll never find in the media here.

So I apologize for my fellow Belgian, but please know that not everybody thinks like that over here.

And to be honest: yes American beer is piss. But Dutch beer is worse. :-)
Your steaks are out of this world, however. I gain 5 pounds every time I visit.

Thank you Sir, for the kind reply.

You know that my post was not meant to insult you personally, and I surely did not expect an apology for something that one of your countrymen said.

There is, however, a strong anti-American sentiment throughout Western Europe. Many see us as pistol packing Cowboys who run roughshod over the rest of the globe.

Yet, when America withdraws from its global commitments, evil actors such as Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, and ISIS make huge gains in depriving peoples of their God-given rights.

Perhaps you might be a voice of reason when you get back home.

    Be well.

Sorry but I can't hold my tongue....we are far from perfect here (not saying any of the rest of the world is guilty of less atrocities throughout human history).

    Howdy!

With natives, ya we kinda did screw them somewhat. We've sorta made up for it and but come on man you can't deny the biological warfare we waged on them with smallpox blankets and the outright massacres (and they have certainly massacred some of us back). Not saying every person who settled this country is guilty of that but ya.

As far as Japan, and granted I haven't done alot of research on this, I've at least heard that their people were almost to the point of revolting against the Emperor and making peace with us around the time we nuked Nagasaki and Hiroshima.

With regards to Nam, the Gulf of Tonkin incident never happened. This is fully disclosed info as of a few years ago. It wasn't even a false flag, it was a total lie to get us in there and help the French secure the opium trade (among other reasons).

Cambodia I don't know much about (other than Pol Pot was possibly one of the most maniacal, brutal communist leaders ever), but certainly our CIA and groups like the Ford Foundation helped to foment many of the communist revolutions in Asia.

Iraq was officially started because of WMDs and the fear that Saddam would team up with AQ to use them against us. While I will totally agree that he had WMDs (ffs we gave him at least the per-cursors for chem weapons to use against the Iranians in his war against them and ofc we've found his burried caches and the chem weapons he sent over to Assad), he actively stamped out elements of radical Islam within his country. Yes he was certainly a brutal dictator but, imo at least, we should not have played world police to stop him (and it's not like there are other brutal dictatorships that we have ignored/propped up throughout our history). Personally I think the number one reason we went over there is because Saddam was about to contest the hegemony of the petrodollar, OPEC and the Saudis by releasing tons of cheap barrels of oil into the market to help develop his nation and also was in talks with other Ba'athist regimes on creating an alternative international trade currency (same thing with Qaddafi). Also with regards to the original Iraq war, he did kinda beg the UN for months to make the Kuwaitis stop diagonal drilling under his border and into his oil fields before he invaded them. Pretty sure you wouldn't be happy if the Mexicans or Canadians decided to diagonal drill under our border and tap into our oil reserves.

Despite all this though I will say we still have it pretty darn well in this country, it's just the leadership of the past century that has sucked and dragged us into all these globalist ploys. Still I have to attest to our living standards (sans our medical system for the most part), morals of the average person (which is unfortunately on the decline), education (also on the decline) and our ingenuity that has spurred technological advancements worldwide.

Said our American Beer tasted like piss.

Our craft beers are amazing imo but the crap that the big guys call beer is just that, crap. They don't even have real brewmasters making it anymore.

    You are still welcome here.

Now this point I can agree on. Welcome to the great state of Texas Oli. If you ever come down to Austin on a weekend I'd love to introduce you to Best of the West and it's tach bays as well as 1000yd range.

Well, it's a problem. Both a historical as a sociological problem. Historical because, let's face it, the culture they imported is at leasr a millenium behind ours. Islam in it's actual form does not fit the Western world.
Originally, North Africans, Italians and Greeks were asked to come to Belgium. In the golden sixties we were in desperate shortage of manpower. After the oil crisis of the 70's, the manpower wasn't needed anymore, but the Africans kept coming.
We've had a string of socialist governments, who welcomed the influx of poor sods, free electorate, you know...
The sociological factor is why the Muslim community in Belgium will never thrive. Because of their backwards ideas, they istracize themselves. Girls are just taking the legal minimum of schooling and are directed towards being stay-at-home woman from birth. Because they refuse using contraception, birthrates are high, and because they lack proper schooling, most of those families live well below the poverty line. Boys are mostly left to do whatever they want. Mothers have nothing to say because they are women and men are not interested in raising their family. They prefer to spend thr day in the many tea houses doing nothing.
Unemployment among Muslims in Belgium is sky high.
So yeah. Islam is the root and cause of the problems. Italians and Greeks assimilated just fine, keeping their cultiral ancestry but adapting to the modern way. It's the same with Asians, chassidim Jews, ... But not for Muslims and black Africans. I wonder why.

My friend, you are on the side of freedom and liberty.

Europe made a fateful decision to open its borders to unrestricted immigration to peoples who will not assimilate into the native culture.

Thanks, "beachcomber"; that fits with what we saw. "

Belgium" was a divided nation to begin with; French Waloons in the South, Dutch to the North, and the very beautiful but ill Antwerpen in the middle, now over-run by indolent muslims. It was obvious than none of those muslims held real jobs, outside of tiny "convenience store"-type mini-groceries.

We were astounded that none of the official signage in rail terminals, etc. North of Brussells, was in their own NATIONAL LANGUAGE (French); but, in Dutch, German, or Arabic. (Nor was any in English.)

We must not allow this to happen here !
