I have a rotating group of favorites that have changed over the years. I keep coming back to .38 Special because it's enough for so many things. I've loaded and shot more of that than anything else. .44 Special often has my attention. .45 ACP and 9mm are staples.

In rifles, my 8x57 Remington 700 Classic is my favorite, but I've only ever hunted with my 7mm-08 Vanguard. 6.5x55, 7.62x39, .223, and .340 Weatherby.

    I could keep going...

Living 12 min. from the largest private gun club within a 200 miles radius, ammo costs have been an Overwhelming factor when I began selecting my favorite chambering.

Having owned multiple guns in 7.62x39, mostly due to the low costs for These centerfire cartridges (ARs didn't grow on me), the answer and the context were crystal clear until early 2022........

But .308 has now become my favorite because of acquiring my first .308 Battle Rifles -- all since early 2022: PTR -91 "Classic GI", then the FAL (SAR-4800) and the the S.A. M1A.

These .308s didn't really "hit me" until age 66.:(
