I still haven’t finished my build but I was convinced after reading a comparison between 308 and 6.5CM and then finding Federal Gold Medal Match at WM for the same price it was online (pre rona).

    Mine is an AR build.

In terms of external ballistitics, the 6.5mm caliber bullets are superior to the 30 caliber and even my beloved 7mm caliber rifles. I have had the opportunity to shoot several different 6.5mm calibered rifles over the years, and as much as I want one, and I will add one to the collection one day, I'll always retain a fondness for my 30 caliber and 7mm caliber rifles.
7 is supposed to be the perfect #, but won't be in my collection. 7mm 197gr@ 2.9-3.0k would be better than a 30cal of 195-200gr. Starting at 22cal and going to 33cal my only missing #s are 25, 28 and 32. A 35rem 1 day could be nice in a lever gun.

A lot of the hard-core 1000 yard guys are running variants of the Win .284 magnum - like .284 Shehanes. You can keep your 7mm.

It's highly unlikely I will ever get rid of my rifles in 7mm. Same for my rifles in 30 caliber.

My first time shooting a rifle in a 6.5mm caliber was about fifteen years ago. A friend of mine wanted me to mount and sight in a new scope on his wife's deer rifle, a Winchester Model 70 in 6.5x55 Swedish. I fell in love with the cartridge. Was very accurate, mild recoil and just very pleasant to shoot.

I have 2 Swedish Mauser rifles.
1 in military guise, and 1 a sporterized military Swedish Mauser.
Now, I have a Winchester M70 Featherweight in 7x57 as well.
I love the old Mauser rounds, because they aren’t hard on the shoulder, are extremely accurate, and hit way above their paper ballistics.

    All this none 30-06 talk

I have owned a rifle in 30-06 since I bought my first one back in 1979. I will always own a rifle in 30-06 and 308.

Just because a person can grow to love a new caliber, doesn't mean they can't still love the older proven ones as well.

I am firm believer in caliber diversity!
