I'm not telling anyone how to raise their children. Not my place to do so. But if you think it's ok to not let children make up their own opinions because they aren't 18 or paying their own bills, then you have some much deeper issues that need to be worked on. That's borderline child abuse

I guess that’s the big difference of pre & post Dr. Spock in America. My dad was a my house my rules kind of guy.

Children should be seen & not heard was yet another thing people my age grew up hearing.

My dad also thought only property owners should be able to vote.

Then again my dad was labeled as part of the greatest generation. Americas contribution to WWII didn’t help win the war by everyone getting a participation award.

Reading your posts, you, sparky, the non-parent seems to be the one trying the shame thing more than anyone else.
We are the problem??? You haven't done it, but you know how to do it better??? Really?
People, like you, that have not or can not trying tell those of us how we did or are doing it wrong is the problem.
The only hard and fast rule of raising kids I know of, try to keep them alive and make the best decisions can and hope for the best. Everyone of them is different and will require methods and decisions. And no parent will always be right.
But letting kids make their own decisions will almost always end up badly.

So again, that's what's great about this country. We are all allowed to have different opinions and beliefs. You are correct that I don't have children myself so I should not be telling others how to raise kids. 100%. I personally think it's wrong to say that kids aren't allowed to even have their own opinions until they are 18. That to me is crazy. But hey, you guys do whatever works best for you. I'll continue to think that everyone deserves a say and an opinion, regardless of their age.

Well I hate to be that guy playing devils advocate but how about 5 year old kids having an opinion about being transgender? Are they old enough to make a life decision to chop off there dicks and become something else?

My sister raised her son with that CA mentality. After several years of 'higher' education he was finally told to get a job and support himself. Shortly thereafter he chose to kill himself.

They are allowed an opinion, yes. It's up to the adults to decide what to do with those opinions. Obviously children will probably come up with some really stupid ideas, because they are children. But to say they aren't allowed to have opinions is wrong in my OPINION.
