In large part I believe that it shouldn't matter what your politics are when it comes to one's children. I believe it was in big part "mess with our kids, and we'll run you out". It's sickening what CRT literature (if you can call it that) they were implementing in the schools there.

Not sure I would go so far as saying that there is 'no win'. Certainly when talking about many politicians I am of the same thought, but if I was in Virginia after governors like Northam and then McAuliffe, I would be breathing a sigh of relief today. We will have to wait and see what Youngkin does or doesn't do before downplaying Virginia's choice.
