I've been bumped from a flight due to over booking and know how that smarts. I was not aboard that aircraft nor were any of our members. We are getting our information from some of the most notoriously untruthful sources on planet Earth. We've probably ALL been "had" by the propaganda mongers.

Notice too, that the elderly victim's background was investigated and immediately made public to stir the muck.

There are some kernels of truth, here. The most important is the fact that by paying a fare, entering an aircraft and surrendering custody of the person that you call "you", most of your rights as a US citizen are placed on "hold" for the duration of the flight.

Is the convenience gained in air travel worth what you lose to deal with these pirates? You must make your own choice. I made mine. No airline will ever again see the ass end of my breeches. It's not worth it.

Hear hear. I'll drive cross country, and did many times, and haven't stepped foot on a plane or even walked past the security checkpoints of an airport since Fall of 1999. I'd rather take the 'hound!

Not a place in Texas I can't get to by driving. Not a place outside of Texas I have any interest in going to.

I decided the last time I flew, about five years ago, and being totally disgusted at the ignominy of the process, that I ... someone who answered his country's call to serve ... will not be treated that way simply for the convenience of getting somewhere quicker.

If I can't get there by ground transportation or by sea, I'm simply not going ... a concept that worked for a few thousand years.

One of our biggest problems as a culture is a puzzling apathy regarding such matters. Grow a pair, folks ...

Friend Sylvia was scurrying about getting ready to travel to Oregon to attend her sister's wedding. I took her aside and said, "Sylvia, I have a better idea................" We packed some clothes in my Honda Gold Wing 6 cylinder 1520cc motor cycle and had one of the best adventures of our lives!

I used my head. She got one side of the luggage area and I told her she could bring anything that she wanted as long as it fit in that compartment. I got the other side luggage compartment and the center box was for rain gear and leathers. She mailed her wedding type dress by USPS and after we crossed the desert, mailed our water jugs and other gear back home.

We took the scenic tour (6,000 miles) and stopped in San Diego to see her Aunt Margie and toured all over Southern California and into Tijuana, Mexico. We traveled up the California coast to Oregon, did the wedding, then toured Hell out of the western states. We traveled for 23 days, hit every Chinese buffet along the way and had a blast!

    OR

She could have taken a commercial aircraft direct to Oregon...... snicker

I said that trip was one of the best adventures of our lives. The next trip on that Gold Wing was 2 years later, 28 days and 8,000 miles. We returned to Oregon to visit the newly weds then even went to Sturgis, SD. But that's another story.

    Flying?.....raspberries!

We stopped flying a few years ago. I only fly if work is sending me somewhere and it's their dime. Bought a truck and travel trailer and just go places. We see a lot more of the country and get to experience a lot of thkngs that we would miss in an airplane. I don't miss the airports, TSA, rude and sick passengers, and the whole hurried pace that air travel requires. Plus, we can change our minds at any time as to where we're going.

Back when I was making more money than the amount of any inherent sense I had (admittedly with a bit more then average, but temporary, inflated sense of self importance as VP/GM of a fairly good sized O&G firm at the time), and pissed to the max at being bumped, while holding a paid 1st class ticket/reservation, in favor of a late arriving passenger who was three people behind me in line; then seeing her allowed to board the Continental flight to Denver, only to discover while I was venting to the agent in charge, that she was a Continental upper management employee, going on vacation, apparently with a much greater sense of self importance that trumped mine.

    I sued ...

Was carrying a bid to Federal offshore drilling rights auction, then held in Denver, for a major oil company.
I finally made it, by the skin of my teeth, and much loss of sleep and hair ... the bid was in the hundreds of millions.

Continental settled for $1500, about six months later.

I think this dude is in for a bigger payday.

Evidently he lawyered up with a hotshot ambulance chaser out of Chicago. I am sure United just volunteered to buy him a new house and car.

    Younggun,

And you unquestioningly believe "the mainstream media", given that the media ROUTINELY LIES to make a "more dramatic story"??
(Do I need to give you a "laundry list" of "Major Stories" that ABC, CBS, MSNBC, NBC, PBS & the major "newspapers" KNOWINGLY LIED about??)

    yours, satx
No more than we need to give examples ofntimes when police officers lied, corporations lied and LE agencies loed and hid evidence.

This is why we need healthy ambulance chasers. They help keep large entities honest.

Yep. On the positive they did such a fine job that United has lost millions in market value in this little PR disaster.

He's also hired a bigwheel ambulance chaser out of Chicago. United just upgraded his retirement to "living large," status.
