So... did we decide if there are actually any 'little green men' in TEXAS, since that is the question that was asked, specifically?

    Context may be important.

I've seen people from California or NY turn a little green after eating some real Tex-Mex, does that count?

It should. However...I probably shouldn't even be discussing Mexican food after having it twice yesterday and having an epic gall bladder attack last night though.

I'm not out to make an argument on what anyone should do. As I said earlier and in other threads, it's up to whomever and I mostly carry concealed myself. As for is it a deterrent or not? Who can say for sure? Having a motion detector lights at your home could be called a deterrent, but if you don't see a person run away after the light comes on, how would you know?

I can tell you what happened to me in the late 70's and you decide if it was a deterrent. At that time I lived in the not so good part of Seattle, Rainier District. Suffice it to say that my skin tone kind of stuck out. I was walking home and with about a half mile to go that I noticed I was being followed. I had my gun in a OWB holster, but I also had a jacket covering it, so it was concealed. After crossing the street a couple times and still being followed I slowed down and let the 2 others that were following get closer. I then opened my jacket when they got within about 20', I didn't pull my gun, but I was ready to if they advanced any closer. When they saw that I had a gun, they turned and ran. Would they have followed me if I had been open carrying? I don't know. I only know what their reaction was when they did see the gun.

    There's them little green men.

"Your facts don't fit my agenda so I'll not only ignore them, I'll just say you are making them up"
Only two of the links posted concern carrying openly and none are from Texas. That's two instances out of how many millions of people carrying openly? I don't know. I find these instances insufficient to change my own risk analysis.

Y'all carry your way. I know as much about your circumstances as you know about mine. I'll continue to carry openly as that method fits my needs best.

Well, here's one from last year. Not exactly open carrying, but CCing so poorly he may have well been.

Again, carry however you want. Just take a cue from those that open carry for a living on how to keep positive retention of your gun.

Yes, this and the other concealed carrying instances can be instructive. But we are talking about carrying openly.

Texas had 3773 motor vehicle traffic fatalities in 2016. Another 17582 sustained a serious injury. http://ftp.dot.state.tx.us/pub/txdot-info/trf/crash_statistics/2016/01.pdf
I'll not be turning in my car keys any time soon for fear of dying or being injured in a collision. Rather, I'll use my equipment, obey the laws, observe the conditions, and operate as best I can. In my car, I use my seatbelt. My pistol lives in a Safariland 7TS ALS holster with Guard.

As with most things in life, it comes down to which risks we are willing to manage and which benefits matter most to us. I carry openly were I legally can, conceal as the situation dictates, disarming only if I must.

So, as I stated earlier, when ever someone from the church of our lady of the OC, feels get hurt by pointing out instances that they swear never happen, they come back like global warming true believers do when facts and statistics are presented to them.

    Get defensive: check

    Make strawman arguments: check

Make wild apples to oranges comparisons: check

    Got it.

The way it all worked, I find that article very amusing. In addition to dressing to the gun, or at least positioning the gun to make harder to take, I think you need to be aware of your surroundings. I have let others go ahead of me in line because I didn't want them behind me.

Exactly. I see someone I think is a meth head, I absolutely do not want them behind me. Anywhere.

I honestly don't think I'm doing any of these, but feel free to stereotype away.

    To All,

Went to the Valero about an hour ago & saw a man open carrying a .45 auto in an OWB holster. = First time I've seen anyone OC in months, other than a LEO/security guard.

OMG!!! Was it a scary black assault handgun???

Sorry, had to make fun of it. Not to say that I see many around my area, but I guess It does happen more often here then there.

Had a lady come to the house to buy some stuff from the wife and she noticed I was open carrying and asked if I do that only around the house or is it allowed in public. I asked if she was from Texas and come to find out she had just moved from the Maryland / Washington D.C. area where she had been a police officer for the past 13 years. I explained that we have open carry here now, but I mostly conceal and always have a handgun on me. She was amazed and said open carry up there got the cops called on you. That got us talking more about the area she came from and it was really sad to hear what it is like near our nations capitol. She then noticed I was flying Old Glory on the house and said if you see the US flag up there on a house, you know they are either military or LEO. It is not popular to fly the flag, or really be patriotic. Said during the election year she saw lots of vandalisim calls against republican voters that made their position known.

Anyways, a 5 minute stop to pick up some stuff turned into us talking for around an hour. She said she has been here in Texas for about 2 weeks and is so amazed at how different it is with polite people, patriotism and outstanding gun laws. Gave her some info on getting a LTC (not sure with her being LEO if things may be different), suggested some things to see and do around our part of Texas and parted ways.

I did ask if she was looking to get on with a department in Texas and continue her LEO career and she said with the hatred for police that she has seen over the past years (especially where she came from), that most likely not.

Sad commentary, but thanks for sharing.

That, along with just about every large city in the country, is the cesspool in which the liberal bacteria is incubated and being spread around this country.

Damned disheartening to see just how much it has spread ...

    claymore504; karlac,

WELL SAID. = The lady was spot on about what Maryland/DC is like.
(I was stationed in B'more some years ago & it was like that in MD then. = The open hostility to patriots & people of religious faith is why my "adopted family" has removed from Northern VA & MD to WV.)
