The exxon mobil site in woodlands had us sign an agreement regarding guns.
Couldnt have so much as a spent shotgun hull in your vehicle. And they had dogs sniffing our vehicles
Several years ago at a BP plant, a dog found a fired cartridge in one of the worker's truck. He wasn't disciplined over it.

I'd be screwed either way. I find fired and unfired cartridges of all kinds every time I dig in my truck.

I understand the at will part but just like discrimination there are laws in place to prevent an employer from firing me based on say skin color. I thought this was a state law that protected the employee from firing.

“I’m sorry, your services are no longer required and your employment is terminated. You are not eligible for rehire at this time.”

At will means you’re employed at the will of the employer and your employment can be terminated at any time for any reason.

The only time discrimination comes into the question is if you, the (former) Employee can prove your termination was due to one of the protected classes being the cause for your termination.

Ex: veteran goes to work for company, later gets a VA disability rating. Veteran says to employer hey; I’m disabled and I need special accommodation in the form of ergonomic keyboard. Employer responds with I’m sorry, we don’t employ disabled veterans, you’re fired.

    That’s discrimination.

It sounds like you work for the same company I do. 06 and 07 signs at the doors to the Houston complexes, and huge signs in the parking lots saying no weapons allowed, even in the vehicles. I had to go in for a big conference once, and had my immediate boss in the truck with me. When I saw all those signs, I took my EDC off and hid it in the truck. My boss said “hey, you can’t do that”. So I explained to him him it’s either that or I wear it into the building.

We aren’t supposed to have knives either, but nobody ever questioned the metal clips on my pockets. They all avoided me anyway, since I was the only one on the complex in jeans.

People in Texas sue for wrongful dismissal all the time for reasons other than discrimination. Some of them win.

You can sign an agreement to give up that right when you sign on as an employee. You can say that you will leave your gun at home in order to work there, or face being fired.

Those suits generally argue due process was infringed. For example, company policy says three warnings before you can be terminated. Employee is terminated, but the warnings aren’t documented. Sue, win.

I pulled in this morning and they are actually 30.06 and 30.07 signs at the entrance of the parking lot... we’ll see what their employee paperwork says

This ain't rocket science, don't ask, don't tell, simply park somewhere other than the company parking lot. Problem solved.

The building is pretty much in the middle of nowhere so that’s not an option... being as they are 30.06 signs and not “don’t have a gun in your car” signs i’m Thinking I’m ok.. unless it’s in the employee hand book or i’m told not to in the class I’m taking I think I’m fine
