I have a hard time understanding how so many people in Texas voted for a socialist like beano. Just doesn't make sense. Were they just not looking or listening to anything he said?
Well, good news is Hillary is still not president.

Well, good news is Hillary is still not president.

Voter turnout, transplants, money, and Cruz sitting on his butt for too long.

Lots of young voters got out. Maybe because they buy the “evil Trump” narrative, maybe because they are uneducated voters and just thought he was “cool” the same as Obama, and maybe they were reached via record spending. But they turned out.

More transplants from blue states every year. Many hate Trump and Trump WAS on the ballot. Many think we need to take in more immigrants, ban guns, etc. with Trump on the ballot they were motivated to show up.

Record spending by Roberto to get people out and spent, and spent, and spent trying to get people out.

By the time Cruz started running there were Beto signs everywhere. This matters to people who don’t pay attention but vote because they think a lot of signs means a good candidate. Once they start talking about supporting a candidate they probably aren’t going to switch. Just my guess though.

Trump probably should have held off on some stuff like birthright citizenship until after the mid terms.

They should have made the Kavanaugh hearing, economy, and caravan front and center. Especially the Kavanaugh hearing. IMO.

I look forward to seeing the full breakdown of demographics.

I think it goes beyond that. Almost all my colleagues at A&M were born and raised in Texas and still voted for Francis. I don't think immigrants help, but I know in San Diego, FOB immigrants were actually fairly conservative...it was their kids, native born Americans, that went sideways left. We've also had a huge shift in culture nationally, if not globally. Everyone gets a college education (or indoctrination). Back in the day, a lot of folks would go to the military or get a job straight out of high school. Now a lot of folks go into the military just for the GI bill, assuming they'll sit behind a desk or work in a motor pool for 4 years and then get a free college degree and a 0 down home loan. They no longer do it for love of country and freedom.

Now mind you, I'm not defending folks moving in from CA...I left for a reason. I just don't think it's as easy as saying it's transplants. Globalization is taking over the planet, and as much as you may not want to admit it, it's taking over Texas along with every other place on the globe. Just my $0.02

Younggun has a good point about uneducated voters. For example, around Austin you hear about too high property taxes all the time. It's always front and center during local political discussions. There were a series of bond props on the ballot this time totaling well over a billion dollars. The people of Austin approved every single one of them.

I don't think most voters even know how those things get paid for. They must think the money just falls from the sky. On one hand they always complain about crazy high property taxes yet vote themselves another billion dollars in debt. Uneducated? Yes, I would have to say so.

hmm, uneducated or just stupid? These are the same folks that say the 1% doesn't pay their fair share, even though they pay more than 50% of the country combined.

The word colleagues implies faculty, which raises a whole lot of variables, but Brazos County voted Cruz 55 to 42.

Your colleagues are out of step with their peers in the county.

But then again, they are Aggies.

Actually, it's staff. I'm not that well paid.

ETA: I work in IT. Which kind of shocked me, because in CA IT folks tend to be more conservative. But all of them are also 10+ years younger than me.
That's probably a relative opinion on political leanings.
