I view it that way, too. I believe Texas and Idaho will be this countries last stand on gun rights.Sam7
I believe you mention in one post a while back, dont think of yall as invaders ... think yall as reinforcements.
Any out of state that has that view is more than welcome
Notice how the dems love the electoral college when it works for them and then scream ....
I been called worse. You know the difference between a Yankee and a damned Yankee?
A Yankee visits and goes home.
A damned Yankee drags a u-haul.
I would argue that in big cities they also need an electoral college system. There is an issue that has come up before in the context of several issues.
I'm still waiting for someone, Dem or GOP, to present me with a rational argument for keeping the electoral college.
The usual recommendation is something lame and non-compelling like "Dumb ass, look in any middle school civic text.".
When I read about the electoral college all I find is an old moribund relic from centuries ago.
I say one citizen gets one vote. Like when we got for mayors or a governor.
Winner-take-all be damned.
Anyone?

Again I have mentioned this in another thread but a true pro gun Oregonian is like seeing Bigfoot.
I don’t know that the middle of the spectrum is beginning to lean far left; instead I think the far left is better at motivating their base to get out and vote. Some of this may be due to the incessant pandering of socialist/communist theories, market interference theories, and flat out vilification of anything other than what the far left believes in by the media.
The other thing to consider is there’s no such thing as a free lunch. In its current form, Medicare and Medicaid consumed 25% of the federal budget, to the tune of $588 billion in 2016 to cover 55.5 million people.
That’s about $10K per beneficiary. For 326 million Americans, that cost would balloon to $5.5 trillion, or about $2T more than the entire 2018 budget. Just for Medicare.
One point to ponder: if the Sallie Mae got out of the student loan business, would the private sector assume the same levels of loan risk?
I would argue that in big cities they also need an electoral college system.
Without the EC why would any potential POTUS ever visit Nebraska, Ohio, Montana or nearly any othe state? Campaign in NY, Boston a few places in CA, Houston and the Meteoplex and you have the whole thing covered. With the EC you at least have to pretend to care about their issues. It is the best attempt to level the playing field between population densities and ideologies. Direct democracy can work on smaller scales like local elections but the EC allows for a consensus over a large area or group of people or both.
Affordable for who? It certainly isn't affordable for me. My Medicare, supplemental and drug plans together cost me $5,000 a year in round numbers, while they paid out a total of less than $200 for me last year. What a deal!........ and as we live longer Medicare and Medicaid are NOT affordable.
