    Recent memory:
    March this year.
Mossberg Shockwave with 3" magnum goose rounds.
Tore the web of my right hand pretty painfully.
Just a dumb-ass thing to do.

    Lifetime memory:
    .378 Weatherby.
    1988.
Was shooting at a landfill near Lubbock way back as a Tech post-grad student.
Shouldered it with my back against my car bumper to steady myself.
Separated my right clavicle and hurt to brush my teeth or get dressed for 6 months!
Really really dumb-ass thing to do!!!

Well, I think you insinuated that you voted for Hillary so it is not outside the realm of credibility for you to do something less than brilliant.;)

What gun have you shot, upon firing made you immediately put it back down?

For me its those .45/.410 bond arms derrengers. As if the jam-your-hand-in-a-blender recoil impusle wasn't bad enough, you only get 2 rounds in a heavy, and rather bulky gun. No thanks.

Freedom Arms 454 , I shot it once and could not hold anything with that hand till the next day!

My son-in-law (LEO) had a Ruger LCP. It was super concealable, but the trigger! Longest trigger pull I have ever seen. You would start easing it back, wondering if it would ever discharge. And then it would go some MORE. Until you felt like you were running out of trigger finger. FINALLY would go, but my word.
I have heard that Ruger has come out with an improved version. Anyone know if they addressed the trigger issue?

Oh, and this same kid's dad had a hunting pistol with a scope (.454 Cassull, is that a thing?). It was a beast. But fairly accurate. The grips were kind of small. I was a bit worried that I would lose hold of the thing...

When I was 8 years old my drunk uncle handed me his 12g single barrel, 'long tom' and told me to shoot some ducks. I was not able to put the stock on my shoulder, so I put it under my arm. When I pulled the trigger the hammer hit me beside my nose and I was knocked on my ass. The next day both eyes were swelled shut and I had a gash where the hammer hit me.

I would say that is the most unpleasant gun that I have ever fired.

I look back on it and wonder why my dad didn't kick my drunk uncle's ass.
But how did the duck taste? :-)

    There are several for me:
A Mossberg Model 500 with 3-inch Magnum 00 buckshot loads = very unpleasant to shoot; sold the gun shortly after firing it on two occassions
A Kahr P40 and a PM40 = both made my hand numb and bruised after two magazines, fierce recoil and lots of muzzle flip; gave away or sold all of them.
An S&W Model 29 and two model 629s = stout recoil and bruised my hand after two cylinderfuls of 240-grain JHPs.; sold all of them after one trip to the range for each. These guns are too light for the cartridge and I kept trying to find one that shot as well as it looked; never did.

I think the most unpleasant gun I've shot was a buddy's 500 s&w mag. It was the short barreled with the comp on the end. He had some 500gr hand loads in it. It literally rattled my teeth. Two shots and I was done. The second one was a Barrett 50 single shot without the muzzle brake. I can't remember the reason why it was off but dam what a difference the brake makes.

Capstick (Yes, I know the source is unreliable but he generally stole all his stories from people who were telling the truth.) wrote about a fellow in Africa who backed his shoulder up against a tree to steady his hold with his .460 Wby. Apparently, the injuries brought an immediate end to the safari and permanent, debilitating damage.

My hunting buddy bought his first .500 Nitro Express in Africa. He basically waited a year to retrieve it when we went on the next safari. Before leaving I said I think I would buy a mouth guard to wear the first time I shot it as I'd hate to break teeth while starting a safari.

He thought it was a good idea & did so. I still can see him pulling out the mouth guard after shooting it the first time. There was definitely some bloody slobber not it as it pulled it out. When I asked if he chipped a tooth he said no that the blood was from periodontal disease!

I destroyed a perfectly good Winch. 71 by converting it to a 450 Alaskan. The first shot gave me a headache and the second shot shook the magazine tube loose. After those shots I traded it off.

Hearing all these stories about shooting high powered exotic firearms and calibers, I’m feeling a little inadequate. Like an average joe at a porn industry convention.
