I don't fly or rent cars anymore, so why would I need a credit card? The hassle of having one and them paying me a pittance to use their cards, just doesn't seem like any advantage for me from my perspective. I have no problems with getting anything I need or want now, so why should I get a credit card just to add another bill and complicate my life?

Trust me, I'm not exactly walking around carrying huge sums of money in my pocket either, and most times I might have a couple of bucks at most on me. But honestly, no one has shown me where having a credit card gives me any advantage over how I do things currently.

If having one serves a purpose for some, that is fine. I have nothing against what others do with their personal finances, but for me, nope, not getting any more credit cards in my lifetime. My grandfather never had one, and paid cash for everything. My father doesn't have them anymore either. Getting rid of them, simplified my life a bunch. And if it's good enough for my father, then it's good enough for me.

Now that's a card I don't like. A debit card is not for me. No protections if you get ripped off, they have my money interest free and I get no percentage kickback on a sale.

Wrong again. I have had two different banks restore tens of thousands of $ on several occasions. Most banks do a great job.

Most all bank ATM/debit cards are also VISA cards and can be used to rent cars. If worried about using debit for purchases, just use the VISA feature. It all comes out of your bank account...so make sure there's money in there.

Not sure why you say wrong again. With credit card you have at max $50 loss. With that debit card you have no legal protection that you will get your money back if it is fraudulently taken. I am glad that you got your money back but that is not a guarantee for others using a debit card.
I usually get my credit card hacked about once a year or so and I am notified almost instantly by the credit card company with new cards within 24 hours. Never lost a penny. PITA but legally better protected than a debit card. But, your choice as to what you use, not my business.

No offense, but I have no desire or need for a credit card. My wants and needs are simple. It's another bill I have desire to have.

I have had credit cards in the past. Most of them were my credit cards I used for business purposes. I have no need for that now that I'm retired.
    Heck, none taken.

Just pointing out that while some folks (not you, just talking in general) should not have credit cards, for those with self discipline they do have some benefits if one wishes to do so.

Um... I'm going to play Devils Advocate here...

I was raised that I should never trust a dollar I didn't earn (or so my Dad would say) for two reasons:
    - It is worth "less" to you since you didn't earn it.
    - You always end up owing to someone in the end.

"Take a handout son, and you are no better than a bum on the corner." - Dad
How moral and righteous right?? Thanks, Dad

In this example, if you ever get caught by the IRS keeping this cash, they will be all over you like white on rice. Honestly, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

The fact is if you pocket this money the IRS/Banks WILL find you. Your spending habits/rates will change and it will issue a red flag for an audit the following year. Where once you were paying bills month to month with your payroll check, then all of a sudden you can pay your mortgage, groceries, gas, guns, etc. with unsourced cash....issues a red flag in the paper trail. Heck, try it; but your account better not grow abnormally, and you would be a fool to buy a fancy car or house...

    Just saying.
you just need a better and more creative system of distribution. :roflfunny::roflfunny:

I got it all back. Didn’t lose a penny.

How's that hard to believe? I do a lot of fabrication and welding jobs for cash. There's no paper trail to begin with. If you don't put it in the bank, there's no paper trail.
Unless you make a paper trail of $7500 or more, you don't need to file income tax.

It's easy to stay off anyone's radar if you know how!

Did you get your government free money???

Generally, I have no need of credit cards. The interest rates are way too high. If there is something I need, I either usually sell off something on don't need, or save up the money to buy it outright.

    .

What interest rate? Mine are paid off monthly and pay me 1-5% of purchases. I win. And I don't have to mess with prepaid cards. Just gotta know how much you can spend in a month, just like using cash, but more convenient. Try buying gas using cash. PITA since I fill up every time. That's 2 trips to the cashier. None for CC.

There was a time when I was young and had the integrity to turn this kind of money in but as I get older...man, having a cool million on hand doesn't sound terrible.
That being said, the guilt from not turning it in would probably eat me alive.

If it was in Bank bags I would call the bank. If it was not in bank bags I would report money found. If they can give me all the serial numbers then I would give it back.

Did it have a return if found label on it? Was it marked? Was it abandoned?
Never seen the doors of an armored truck just fly open from lax closing procedures.
Was it someone in the middle of a nefarious transaction and in a hell of a hurry to leave, just maybe left it on the back of a car and drove off?
    Many variables, many outcomes.

    Cash is King.....
    Right is not always right
    Wrong is not always wrong.
It's a gray area keeping that find....
Sure would get many out of the red, but not out of their inner consciousness of right and wrong.
I'll stay in the gray........ Might have a slightly guilty conscience though...... LOL!

There is right and there is wrong.

The failure to acknowledge this is part of what is wrong with today's society.

I am not going to comment on what to do with the found money. Not one credit card though. Depending on how much money you spend every year though having a credit card actually saves you money. If you pay it off every month and have a card that pays you a percentage back it can really pay. Try to get a discount at the post office paying cash. You do if you pay credit card. Obviously if you need a rental car you are out of luck. Finally, how do you buy something online without a credit card? I do buy guns in private transactions with cash. Nobody wants a check or credit card.

There you go again trying to convince yourself that you are making money off the idea that you get money back from the credit card company. You paid more for the item you bought just so they could give you something back. Pay cash you might pay less.

Precious few mainstream stores offer cash discounts anymore. I can't recall one.
