I have the 4095 carbine (.40 SW). I've only put a little over 300 rounds through it but haven't had a single failure. 300 of that was FMJ and 40 rounds of self defense ammo. The accuracy is pretty decent but it is heavy, ugly and has cheap plastic Weaver rails. I replaced the top rail with an aluminum one and added a folding forward grip and light to the lower one. The takedown is a bit clunky as you need to use a special tool (provided), but otherwise I've had no problems cleaning it. The forward grip came with a spare of the special tool contained inside it. I've considered getting a 10mm version.

I had a 9mm carbine. Bought it dirt cheap because it wasn't firing. Turned out to be a kinked spring. Fixed it for something like $5 and it ran fine after that. Couldn't get over how shitty the trigger pull was, tho. Sold it...

Yes, the triggers are crappy, they are chunky and are time-consuming to take down. The Hi-Point is what it is and nothing more. You want the best trigger right out of the box, then get a Canik. IMO saying that "I will only shoot or buy a Hi-Point if that was all I can afford, etc. etc." is a cop-out. The people I know just own them because they simply work and shoot well with very little maintenance. I have zero shame in owning them.

None of the firearms that I keep in my collection malfunction under normal operating circumstances. If a firearm does not run right, fit well, or hit to POA it is purged immediately from my safe without a second thought. In the past, I have purged more expensive, more so-called "reliable" firearms for not living up to these criteria.

Had the 9mm carbine for a while. Odd looking for sure. Worked great. No misfires or issues. As reliable as any other gun I’ve owned (except for a Phoenix arms 22).

accuracy was fine, though didn’t really have the power I’d expect it to have. Likely more of an issue with the ammo I was using.

Mendes up selling it to find another gun. It’s a fun toy, goes bang bang, and has a few added features you can add.

Wouldn’t mind picking up a 10mm carbine some day.

What do you mean by that?

When shooting at an old dish satellite, the Hi Point would make a nice dent. Shot same dish, same distance, same ammo, with a pistol and it managed to break through the dish.

not sure what lead to that but that’s what it was.

That's definitely strange, especially since it was out of a longer barrel.

Pistol ammo typically doesn’t have the case capacity and isn’t loaded with power designed to push the bullet all the way down a 16” barrel. After a certain point velocity is going to drop off. If it was you would get a horrendous muzzle flash from your handguns and velocity would suffer.

Loading your own and choosing the right powder might allow for a slight gain, but not much. I messed around with it before but it was several years ago and aside from being pretty close to pistol velocity, I don’t recall what gains I achieved, if any.

I own a hi point c9 bought it at a pawn shop for 100 bucks just because. Reliability can be hit or miss depending on the ammo. It's ugly as sin but it does for the most part work. Shooting it however is not pleasant and it being blow back it's definitely not the best shooter. Shooting the hipoint makes shooting my Glock 19 feel like going from a pinto to a Mercedes
