Glock is crazy overrated. People only know the name from "gangsta's" , Movies and Music... Ive introduced several people to shooting and when i show them what i have and ask what they want to shoot they always ask "Do you have a glock"... there can be 3 sitting there among a few other guns even revolvers and they couldn't point the glock out to save their lives.

Its a very very trendy gun... but it luckly to its name, a very good gun. Although i own them, i don't care for them much.

An XD, M&P, Ruger P series, Sigs (and most else) are just as good as a glock, if not better... but glocks are always thought to be the only option to durable guns... its sad that people can't open their minds to others and possibly try something else out.

this goes for 1911 guys, Revolver guys (them auto loader thingy's just aren't reliable, blah blah blah), Sig guys are pretty stuck on themselves too...

I just hate how a lot of people like a gun, and that means there can be no other options out there and fight it tooth and nail to try and force their logic down ones throat.

Yes the Desert Eagle is over-hyped. Look at all the video games and movies they star in. But it is not over-rated. Just the size and functionality of the Desert Eagle puts it in a league of its' own. It's so powerful, it needed to use a bolt assembly similar to AR's. And let me tell you it is dead on accurate even with the heavy recoil. Having this gun pointed at your face should be enough to make you crap your pants. This is the most intimidating and also the most fun gun to shoot in my collection. Everytime I shoot it for the first time after a long drought of going to the range, I feel like I'm gonna hit myself on the head like that chick on youtube.

I think the phaser is over rated. First of all if you screw up the stun setting you will have a lot of explaining to do (paperwork too if your boss is a dick). Second of all when you do use the stun setting your targets all wake up at the same time which is darn inconvenient considering you have to deal with a whole group of PO'd people all at once. I much prefer the disrupter. Once you have been disrupted you learn respect real fast.

I know what you mean. I have only ever met one person and it was on the web that was a 1911 nut. Nothing better than kind of stuff. And then you have the Glockophants who put their Glocks back on the alter at night and light incense, sing and say prayers to their Poly God.
Truth is they are both just guns.
Revolver people. Hmmmmmm. I know one guy who prefers revolvers over semiauto but is not objectin to buying a semiauto if he finds the right one at a good price.

There are all kinds of things to me that categorize hand guns. But once done they only fall in to 3 categories. 1911s, SemiAutos, Revolvers.

Short and sweet any wheel gun is a Revolver.

1911s are 1911s, the caliber is not at issue, it is the action of the pistol. I have never fired a pistol that is so smooth and sweet as a 1911. Rock Island to Kimber, the triggers on true 1911s are different some how than a normal semiauto. So for this distinction they have their own category.

Then there is the semiauto. Semi auto covers hammered and striker fired, polymer and metal (aluminum, steel, scandium, zink-alloy) frames. With every trigger system they can think of in-between.

All of these guns have their merit and they have their place. Some are better suited for specific jobs than others and this holds true for all guns based on need or desire.
No one gun is the end all be all of the gun industry. some guns just fill a needed nitch better than other. Or some get over blown by a liberal press making it out to be something it is not, which lights the fire to the whirlwind frenzy of mindless zombies that fall in to the XYZ camp.
Glock, Sig, Walther.....Hell I love Bersa guns. They are reasonably priced and are of great quality in my opinion. Taking those two things in to acct it would be easy to put them on said pedestal.
But at the end of the day, every day. Until some one makes the StarTrek Phaser a real deal. A gun is a gun is a gun.

Sorry if I rambled, but the Glock (gun brand, poly, metal frame, hammer striker) love hate thing just is stupid.

I ended up leaving a board I had been on for years because we got in to a HUGE discussion over poly guns, Glock in particular. XDs were gone after some but most took their pitchforks and torches out for the Glock.
Words were thrown, and names were called (and this surprised me on this board because you NEVER see it) and intelligence was called in to question if you even looked at a poly gun.
I was at odds with one of the mods and the forum Admin was not happy with me because I was defending poly framed guns.
In the end, after the dust settled, and everyone was still standing there with their true colors laid across their shoulders, I posted my good byes to the forum members, did not point or lay blame, just said it was time to move on, received more jeers from the one Mod and a but chewing letter from the Admin. (like I said I was on this forum for years) I again explained my position and called it a day.
I have a little bias left in me, but not so much as there use to be. I try to be very open minded where hand guns are concerned.

    . . .

That isn't true. I don't use incense. It annoys the family.

On a more serious note. I want one of every gun out there.

People that think they have found the one gun. I simply let them be happy with themselves. I may put in my .02 on occasion, but it doesn't bother me on a personal level.

Some guns have a cult following, which doesn't speack to how good a gun they are for whatever purpose. It simply means that the gun is popular and quite a few people feel it is one of the best guns. I think one of the reasons that Glock has such a cult following is their price point. They may be on some movies, but I don't feel any more so than other guns (totally subjective and I don't watch "gansta" movies).

Recent events make me say - the FN Five-seveN. Wayyyy over rated. Why? It's a pistol chambered in a .22 cal cartridge that has almost identical ballistic performance to .22 WMR. Funny thing is, the 5.7x28mm centerfire takes up more room - it's longer and the case is larger in diameter.

So basically anything chambered in 5.7x28mm is over-rated IMO.

Dammit Ben! Ya beat me to it!

I'm going to go with Glock as being the most over-rated handgun!

Don't worry, I'm putting on some asbestos underwear on!

    Glock Perfection!

And to be honest, the Glock fanboys did this. The Glock is a great pistol and does exactly what it's designed to do, and does it very well. But, so do so many other modern pistols on the market.
