That seems to only apply to "higher education", not primary/secondary education. At this point I'm not sure if a LTC protects you in a parking lot or only in your car if you're pulling in to pick your kid up at school.

I’ll pull up the AG opinion letter because every time I review the mess that was made by HB1927, I have to relearn something.

See KP-0047; though not specifically about schools, it does address premises and 46.03 relationships.

    ETA:

That definition of premises is still part of 46.03 in (c)

    (4) "Premises" means a building or a portion of a building. The term does not include any public or private driveway, street, sidewalk or walkway, parking lot, parking garage, or other parking area.

I wonder if any of the mass transit governing bodies in the state are still claiming that buses and trains are buildings? On wheels, yes, but still buildings.

I know that I've open carried in many places but I'm not setting foot on a local train unless my firearm is well concealed.

Houston freaked out about guns on trains back in the day then, iirc, got slapped down. I haven't ridden in so long now that I have no idea about the current state of affairs.

Sadly, it has become apparent that our elected “legislators” serve industry lobbyists instead of their own constituencies. They gleefully ignore the Constitutions which bind them.

You can peruse the AG opinions indexed by categories here. If you're just interested in the Guns and Weapons, there's only a handful from Jim Mattox, Dan Morales, Coryny, Abbot, and Paxton.

From my brief perusal.it looks that many governmental entities are trying to find “loopholes” which could allow them to prohibit legal carry.

    Not governmental; but same thing.

Uber & Lyft “ban” all weapons for both driver & passengers.

On one Saturday a while back, in BOTH New Orleans & Atlanta, armed Uber drivers had to shoot gun-carrying carjackers.

Both carjackers died, both drivers were fired.

I have never been in either while unarmed.

    Your choice. . . . . . .

This reminds me of the kind of bs, of the gun store that bans their customers from 'putting their hands in their pockets'...yeah, uh-huh, their ban is bs...

I suppose if they posted "no chicken salad sandwiches' allowed would that 'ban' carry the weight of law...no, of course not.

Businesses can arbitrarily ban whatever they care to...doesn't make it law or compel anyone to honor their ban...and why petty little 'bans' of this type keep me from using their services...fk them!

    BUT,

Some states currently do give force of law to property owners’ desires !

    I’m not saying that is “right”. . . . .

Here in Fort Worth I rarely see anyone open carrying. I have open carried about 3 times as a social experiment. I was asked to take my gun to my car in Costco. There were no signs posted but it is in their terms of service. The net result is that I find open carry needlessly provocative. BTW I have been legally carrying concealed every day since 1994.

I've only seen one guy carrying at a Lowe's, he had a shirt and tie, probably a businessman shopping during lunch.

I'd bet good money that at least 80% of all speeding tickets in Texas come from tiny tiny towns that have non-standard limits, obscured signs, sudden changes in speeds, no posted signs at all...

Or even crooked cops making stuff up to get the city some extra dough. They know you aren't going to come back and fight it.

If you TRULY get a ticket as a result of a non-standard sign, an obscured sign, sudden changes in speed limits (speed limits may be reduced in no more than 15 mph increments except in school zones) request a hearing, take photos of the problem, grab a copy of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD) and go before the judge. You'll win.

I remember way back when I got my first CCP and wore a gun CC to Wal Mart. It really felt strange because I thought everyone knew I was carrying. Then I realized there must have been many more and I started looking for gun printing everywhere. I was very conscience of everyone but soon settled back in my normal routine (just looking at pretty women) and didn't pay attention anymore.
Now here in Texas I just assume everyone is carrying. I seldom see anyone OC and when I do I usually assume (probably incorrectly) they are LEOs.
I don't open carry because I don't want to be knocked in the head for my nice pistol. It is nice to know I can though!

I personally think "open carry" is (a) foolish, (b) counter productive, (c) has the potential to make others uncomfortable, and (d) usually is a sign of someone who has some hidden "macho/Rambo" wannabe motivation. Not always, but usually. I personally would not want the "bad guy" to walk into the Luby's Cafeteria and see my 1911 hanging on my belt. My bet would that that might be the first one to catch a bullet. I want the "bad guy" to be guessing who might have a defensive weapon and be ready to use it at the first sign of trouble. I don't want someone sitting next to me to be upset and ruin their meal or whatever else they might be enjoying because I felt like being Wyatt Earp.

You certainly can think what you please. If people in your area are uncomfortable with open carry, maybe it's an issue of demographics. My thinking is that if more people open carried, maybe that 'bad guy' would just move on.

I open carry, other than at work where it's concealed carry only, out of comfort. I prefer to have my shirt tucked at most times. Even at work I will often tuck my shirt back in and throw on my welding shirt over the top. I don't care to have my gun against my skin for long. If people around here notice, I either don't notice their response, or I get the occasional "nice gun" remark.

In a nutshell, I would love to see a society where open carry was the norm.
