In the mix of ARs, M1As and various Henry rifles I never managed to acquire a 30-30. I can't see any reason to add another caliber now.
Every time I think this I find another to load. I don’t always keep the gun, but I always roll my own for what I shoot due to cost savings. Under $50 still for a set of dies.

224 Valkyrie - very hard to find ammo for. I love how this gun shoots and how accurate it is.

458 SOCOM - $2+ per round. I can load for around 70 cents.

The only gun I’ve not bought due to ammo cost is 5.7. I’ve wanted one of those pistols since I first saw one. Really wanted the carbine. But I know myself. I would shoot the heck out of it. And it would cost a ton to shoot. And reloading for that round is tricky. It’s the only round I see myself never buying.

The discussion about 30-30 popularity keeps coming to mind. Someone mentioned it could be age specific. What say ye?

I bought mine at a pawn shop in the 80's. Came with a rubberized scope which is still on it. Its taken lots of deer and pigs. Any time i hunt in E TX it goes with me. I load some 125g HPs for it that are as lethal as anything I have ever loaded for a gun of any caliber.

Pawn shop guy said the guy he got it from told him it was dead on at 100yds. I took it from the pawn shop to the woods, and shot a nice 10 point buck with it a few hours later.

Along with the guitar I traded in, I was only out $32 for it.
Bought mine new in 1976. Beautiful Bicentennial Commorative. Complete with box of silver tip bullet and nickel silver action and birds eye stock. Think I paid $165 for it. I was in the wholesale hardware business, we sold them.

I really need to learn and start...

Yes. I agree with him. It can be done very cheaply. Especially if you use cast lead bullets. Back about 8 years ago, it could be done for $.27 a round. That has been a while though. 30-30 is one of the best rifles to shoot lead bullets in. Under 2,000 fps with 170gr lead bullets coated with Alox or White Lube and it will surprise you what it does out to 200 yards or with Hornady XTF 160 gr bullets and a bit more velocity 200-250 yards.

if you're serious and reload I suggest you go over and join "castboolits.com", and ask nicely for some 30-30 brass, load data, reloading eqpt, etc. they are wonderfully helpful and usually have some extra everything. I've never been disappointed with them. jmho...

Set it up and let me know the location and I'll be there.
I think it’s a great idea. I was going to sell mine to fund another gun…but funded the other gun and never got around to the sell part. My 336 shoots lights out. Let’s do it. I think we should meet in Cleveland at Trinity armory on 1/6 @ 9:00am. Only bring one gun….

    - edited the date in case some don't find the Meet-up thread.

I just Googled it and it's a 3 hour drive, one way, from me. So a 6 hour turn around will, most likely, not be on my schedule.
