Just drove up here to Kentucky so my wife could visit her family, 16 hour drive straight through only stopping for gas and food. Numerous times in north Texas where the speed got up to75, people still doing 60 in the fast lane. I moved to the right and kept my cruising speed, then they felt the need to keep from passing....idiots...Arkansas drivers were even worse....glad I survived them....but I also traveled with my AR, 1911, and XD40SC....

I hit a deer just past Kenedy on 87, driving from Victoria to San Antonio. I was driving a budget rental truck, and didn't even break. It bounced right off the bumper, and ran off. I didn't stop. My inlaws were following behind me and seen it happen. It had to be seriously injured because it dented the hell out of the truck.

I drove through there on my way to Michigan a few weeks ago. Same MO, though; no stops except gas, food and bathroom. Did the trip up non-stop. Wound up stopping in Texas for a nap on the way back, mostly because the guy I was going to buy my new computer from didn't want me showing up at 2AM.

On the way up, I thought a guy was going to try robbing me at a rest stop in Indiana. Glad he didn't follow me through the door, or he'd have found a balding, overweight guy holding a knife and asking him to leave the bathroom for five minutes. LOL.

I am curious as to why anyone would feel the need to warn lawbreakers of a police presence? Do you do the same for other criminals? "Hey pal, don't rob that house, they have an alarm system!"

Honestly, I say to hell with 'em! If anyone wants to speed than they need to accept the consequences of their actions if caught. We're paying the police to enforce the laws, why would anyone want to interfere with that? Plus, if they go after the more serious offenders, the rest of us can get away with driving 5-10 MPH over the limit!

Had a woman killed in a MVA close to where we live last week, she was greatly exceeding the posted speed limit on a dangerous road. It's sad she lost her life, but it would have been worse if she ended up killing some family after she lost control of her car because of her decision to drive so fast.

As for motorcyclists patting their heads, it's a universal warning sign not only for police but also any other cautious situation.

But it is fun to flash your lights at people who are speeding and then watching them hit the brakes. I often wonder how long they drive before they realize they've been made a chump?!?

You drive 5-10 over? Lawbreaker! You might as well be breaking into houses or something.

I didn't say I did, I simply said the rest of us could get away with it...

But at least I am man enough to accept the consequences of when I do get caught exceeding the speed limit, and don't ***** out with such claims as "speed trap" or other bullshit...

Given how poorly the vast majority of drivers drive in this country, if there is anything we need it is greater enforcement of the traffic code!

Yeah, I was kinda staying out of this until majormadmax's comment. Lawbreakers? Most of the speed traps I see are hidden spots where a cop is generating revenue by trying to catch people who are driving a very reasonable speed but happen to be over the limit. There's a cop that stakes out a site on my way to work where most of the road is 55 mph, but one little spot is 40 mph. Not a school zone, not a congested area, just a spot that either by accident or design (to generate revenue) happens to have that limit. Is the intention to have drivers slow down? Then flashing your lights will accomplish what the cop is trying to do. If the intention is just to generate revenue (and points for the cop), then screw him.

Suggested reading: "A Speeder's Guide to Avoiding Tickets" by Z./SGT James M. Eagan, N.Y.S.P. (Ret.) Eagan is very open about speeding tickets being issued to generate revenue. He offers a lot of insight from the cop's point of view and has no sympathy for criminals.

I lived in NY for a few miserable, cold years and the consulting firm I worked for did some business with a law firm. The lawyers told us that speeding tickets made them a ton of money. If you get a ticket, you hire an attorney (gotta have an attorney - judge won't accept representing yourself - lawyers look after lawyers). Each week the lawyers would take a stack of tickets to a judge and the judge would change them all to a non-moving violation (e.g., loud muffler). You end up paying the same (or slightly higher) fine and the attorney's fee, but you don't have a moving violation against your record and it doesn't cause your insurance to go up. A newspaper broke the story and tried to get people fired up to force action, but nobody gave a shit and as far as I know it still works that way. At the end of the day, the gov't was only interested in extracting money, not in controlling your speed.

the other night i got flashed by two drivers. why? i have no freaking idea because both cars werent even going fast enough to make me think i was going too slow. the road is posted at 50mph one direction and 55mph the other, both vehicles were behind me and far back enough that they werent up my rear forcing me over. i figured maybe i had a light out or leakinh fluid or something, pulled over checked my vehicle and nothing.

The revenue whine is old and, for most places, completely untrue. I have studied the budgets of many Texas cities, and ALL court finess collected amount to from less than one to at five percent of budget revenue.

Maybe they saw you pumping your brake lights earlier outside the men's restroom?
