So, how many officers getting killed will it take before YOU decide it is ok for law enforcement to 'one up' the bad guys? It only takes a single incident for most folks to reflect 'wish we had a _____ in reserve somewhere to use in cases like this'.

But, people that have never put their life in jeopardy to perform a job, normally don't understand.
I know what your saying and it makes sense, BUT then why are we paying DHS,NSA, DPS, and Other Federal resources To perform Programs and duties for the state If we are buying $600,000 vehicles?

I love how if you are AGAINST officers having an MRAP you must be FOR Officers being killed in the line of duty.

    Classy.

That's like saying if you own guns you must be ok with putting children's lives in danger. It is the exact same argument the gun grabbers use.

County warrants and crime do not fall under the jurisdiction of DHS, NSA, DPS, or other federal resources.

Would you prefer the NSA be inclined in the day to day operations out your county sheriffs office?

You bitch about federal agencies screwing things up like they did in Waco but you say locals don't new the equipment because the Feds are there.

There is also the matter of response time.

And giving officers a vehicle to protect them is "militarization".

Nobody said you were "for officers getting killed", but you seem to be against them being protected because you think your cop friends are suddenly gonna turn on you and drive an MRAP through your front door.

If you look up what an MRAP was designed for I think you might get the picture... It wasn't meant for the type of " County Warrants" . SWAT officers DO have Armored vehicles in their inventory, Before we even deployed these MRAP in Afghanistan and Iraq. So why spend over half Million dollars on more?? Besides, on Search and Seizures of that magnitude there is almost always a Federal Presence. Whether is the DEA or ATF Ect. Besides, I Didn't say I Wanted the NSA or any other Federal Agency to be overlooking any County or State PD. But they are there.. And there to stay. If HPD has UAV's And other Tactics (including armored vehicles) I'm sure every other MAJOR PD has em too. SO again, Why the need to buy a $600,00 vehicle which was first designed to fight terrorism?

So your neighbor has a gun, why do you need one?

They were first designed for fighting wars you know.

I think some here need to realize this is a special purpose vehicle and is used for special purposes. It's not like they are going to use this for your everyday warrant. It will be used accordingly to stop known threats that pose high risk. I am sure of this. As a soldier who has been around, drove, worked on and maintained several of these vehicles for quite awhile, we only use them for special purposes. We do not drive these around to knock on doors. We use them when they are needed. I'm sure Dallas county will as well.

Has anyone here been to a motorpool recently? We have thousands of vehicles all across the Country, costing billions of dollars in Tax money just rotting away. How about older M998's from the 80's? They are just sitting around barely used, nearly 30 years old and most have less than 10k miles on them. Maintenance costs is more on them replacing part because they are not used.

Who said anyone spent $600,000 on these? They're going to be put in storage so the govt is offering them to police depts for free. The same thing has happened in the past with other armored military vehicles.

Texan2 did indeed say I was for officers not being protected because I question the validity of this purpose.

I am SPECIFICALLY questioning it for Dallas COUNTY seeing as how their patrol jurisdiction continues to shrink due to ongoing urban sprawl by the suburbs.

It is a MILITARY vehicle, so thus MILITARIZATION.

    Seriously?

Is a Colt AR a military weapon? After all, it's just had a few changes from what the military uses.

Did they mount an M2 on top of the MRAP that I didn't see?

Not to mention tons of other "military vehicles" used in the civilian world. Are those evil also?
