Hence, game, set, and match to TXARGUY.
You may have noticed that Sapper is mysteriously absent.

Sapper is quite un-mysteriously is just waking up after a very long 12 1/4 hr. night shift and some sleep. I'm currently reading all y'alls posts right now and will be responding soon, but at this juncture let me say that posting OPINIONS from both the looney Left and the Extreme Right is not "empirical" evidence of shit. Obama sending a death squad to an OCT event? Really? Some of you guys not only believe this nonsense you consider it empirical? Let me guess, some of you are the tallest kids in your class, correct?

Good grief, the empirical evedence is all the negative publicity these evnts are having. What do you think politics is? All the pro 2A legislation that we are enjoying now took years (decades) to get put into place. It took the long hard work of a lot of people behing the scenes, people you never really hear about because they aren't attention whores. They did it out of passion, not for noteriety.

You HAVE to be patient to get these things through the Capitol. The process is long and complicated and you better be good at it or you'll get nothing.

Sapper tell us about your group. What policies to protect a good image were in place and so on?

I need to clarify a few things, this isn't my group....I'm not a member. I heard about the event on the radio and since I've never been to an OC event I thought I'd go see what it's all about and if this is a group I could support. Which brings up a point: how many of the TGT members throwing fits over OC groups have ever been to an OC event? You might want to attend one, sans weapon if you want and see what they're all about. Further, the radio ad said there was to be some give-aways for attendees so I thought, what the heck, I'll check it out so I can develop my own opinion from first-hand knowledge. I joined their Facebook page first to see what they're all about and it was posted that they had Home Depot's permission to hold the event on their property and had informed NRHPD. They held the event at the back of the store's property so as to be the least inconvenience to HD and their customers which I thought was reasonable. One of my buddies was there, he's a USAF vet and a member of the Patriot Guard. We thought the event was O.K. but I had to leave early to give a lift to one of our elderly church members who had fallen the day previous and needed a ride home home from the hospital. I haven't heard anything negative since about the event.

Sapper, I don't have an issue with "most" of these rallies. Most of them are held in proper places, and conducted well by the organizers. It is the ones that walk into Chili's and other places like that. They are the ones doing it the wrong way. I am all in for OC, and I sincerely hope it gets passed here soon. However, the few that insist on doing things the wrong way are giving the rest of us a bad wrap. I don't think ANYONE on here is railing against all OC rallies, just the ones where it doesn't make any sense whatsoever

Thank you BC. It was requested that all weapons be kept slung...no Port Arms, Ready position or brandishing and safety rules were enforced such as no fingers in triggers. It was mainly self-policed. Some people had mags in their rifles, some didn't. It was requested that any confrontations with protesters be handled by the organizers who were experienced in such matters. There was one protester there, a man and his son who carried a sign saying "Real Men use Words, Not Guns". I never saw him being savaged either verbally or otherwise by any of the OCers, but was engaged in calm, reasonable discourse about the group's aims.

Dusty, my eyes have been opened after seeing the reactions from my fellow TGT members. If like-minded people get virtually apoplectic over OC events, then I can imagine what the antis are thinking.....and doing. There's nothing to be gained from poking a stick in the anti-gunners' hornets nest but getting stung. I'm not so hide-bound that I can't see and not so prideful to admit when I'm wrong. The OCT event in North Richland Hills was my first....and last OC event.

Good question BC. To be honest I think that MAYBE, just maybe it might be a little less intimidating to folks who aren't familiar with guns. I think the problem is that going into places of business with AR's and such does probably intimidate and scare a lot of people. I mean, think about it. What is the average person going to think if 5 or 6 folks walk into a busy Chili's carrying AR's and AK's? I can probably guess really quick. Maybe a flash of Adam Lanza, or maybe the bastards at Columbine?

I sure as hell do not know the answer, but I believe there is a sensible approach that doesn't make us look bad. You guys know I am all for gun rights, and I mean bare bones 2A rights, no frills or exceptions made. But we have to know the types of folks are that we are trying to educate/deal with and think of ways to do so that doesn't push them in the opposite direction of what we are trying to do.

IMO, empty OWB pistol holsters would make the best point.

Especially if combined with a sign saying concealed handguns are OK.
