BELLEVUE, WA – In response to the senseless attack in Las Vegas, the Second Amendment Foundation and Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms have issued the following statement:

“The Second Amendment Foundation and Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms support a productive dialogue concerning “bump stocks,” National Concealed Carry Reciprocity and the proposed Hearing Protection Act.

“We recognize that banning firearms accessories is not a solution to violent crime.”

"a trigger crank, a bump-fire device, or any part, combination of parts, component, device, attachment, or accessory that is de- signed or functions to accelerate the rate of fire of a semi- automatic rifle but not convert the semiautomatic rifle into a machinegun."

So will ask the question for those who KNOW the inner workings: How does this affect the INNER working trigger groups...its my belief that ALL slide fire etc etc are external devices? If so then this Bill SHOULD SO STATE????

It's vague enough that it could eventually include triggers that have a lighter pull. And then of course, who is to say what would be a standard for triggers?

No. Of course not. If the bill stated that all the parts had to be external, it wouldn't accomplish what it's intended to do.

    The language is pretty clear:
...any part...that...functions to accelerate the rate of fire...
That language makes anything illegal if it makes an AR run better. Want to install a BCG with some sort of slick coating? Want to install an adjustable gas block? Want to install a trigger with a shorter reset? They are all outlawed under this language.

You didn't expect Feinstein to introduce a "bump stock bill" and not load it up with a definition of terms that outlaws 10,000 more products, did you?

The “or functions” is the really scary part. A belt loop can function to bumpfire an AR so are belt loops illegal? Shoestrings? Rubber bands? How about CLP lubricants? Could they be classified as a part? This would apply to all rifles that are semiauto and not only detachable box mag guns. So lighten the trigger on say a Browning 22 breakdown and your a felon?

The feinswine and turncoat gop sponsored bill would ban legally registered NFA short barrels and suppressors from use on semi-auto rifles. Both of those items boost the velocity of the BCG thus increasing the maximum rate of fire.

Paying the taxes and jumping through the paperwork hoops and waiting a year for stamp approval still isn't enough gun control for these leftists.

What the NRA and other appeasers isn't considering is the fact that YOU DON'T NEED A BUMP STOCK TO BUMP FIRE. So when this ban goes through, what do you think the gun grabbers will do? Will they be satisfied and quit? No, they will find youtube videos of people bumpfiring semi-autos without any external aids and videos of Jerry Miculek firing everything at MG rates of fire. Then how will the screw-ups at the NRA possibly defend private ownership of semis? They already conceded to the commies that anything that fires too fast is too evil to be owned.

    F--- them all.

The answer to that is YES as per: "or functions to accelerate the rate of fire of a semi- automatic rifle but not convert the semiautomatic rifle into a machinegun."

Lube, lighter weight BCG, CLEANING the BBL after shooting, WEARING GOAT Skin gloves for better trigger feel and contact so you can shoot faster, RED DOT Scope for faster target acquisition, hard chrome or Boron plating for a slicker surface and the list goes on and on...

The standard would be something like those "New York Triggers" so that you won't shoot yourself. Might need to be something like a 20lb trigger for safety reasons....

Actually, the NRA doesn't seem concerned with stopping anyone from bump firing. They are throwing the single device under the bus by attempting to steer the conversation to the ATF approval of that single device while the liberal **** is attempting to pass an ambiguous law that could have far reaching consequences.

I disagree with the NRA on this, but their worst case scenario (bump fire stocks no longer approved by ATF) has a much narrower effect that any bill that might make it to Trumps desk.

That might be ok in the short term but the NRA will still have thrown away all their clout in the future. Because if the ATF decides to restrict bump stocks the NRA is now on record supporting their ban on semi-autos that fire faster than X arbitrary number.

When the grabbers come out with a bill for a total ban on semi-autos showing videos of people bump firing them without the stock the NRA can't then argue that these rifles when bump fired are ok but the ones bump fired with a special stock are not. They've shat their own bed and thrown all gun owners except black powder & muzzleloaders under the bus. Not even revolvers are safe because Jerry Miculek has tons of videos of himself shooting those faster than any bump fired or converted AR.

In short the NRA capitulation is plain bad for everyone except the grabbers. Why couldn't they have kept their mouths shut until the investigation has found a motive? If the murderer was some kind of leftist antifa terrorist throw that back in the democrats' faces. If he's loonier than a nursing home full of crazy cat grannies then play the mental health angle. WTF the NRA picked the worst possible strategy without even waiting for the facts to come to light.

NRA's Wayne LaPierre and Chris Cox Issue Joint Statement

(FAIRFAX, VA) - The National Rifle Association today issued the following statement:

"In the aftermath of the evil and senseless attack in Las Vegas, the American people are looking for answers as to how future tragedies can be prevented. Unfortunately, the first response from some politicians has been to call for more gun control. Banning guns from law-abiding Americans based on the criminal act of a madman will do nothing to prevent future attacks. This is a fact that has been proven time and again in countries across the world. In Las Vegas, reports indicate that certain devices were used to modify the firearms involved. Despite the fact that the Obama administration approved the sale of bump fire stocks on at least two occasions, the National Rifle Association is calling on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) to immediately review whether these devices comply with federal law. The NRA believes that devices designed to allow semi-automatic rifles to function like fully-automatic rifles should be subject to additional regulations. In an increasingly dangerous world, the NRA remains focused on our mission: strengthening Americans' Second Amendment freedom to defend themselves, their families and their communities. To that end, on behalf of our five million members across the country, we urge Congress to pass National Right-to-Carry reciprocity, which will allow law-abiding Americans to defend themselves and their families from acts of violence."

What? You want us to read the actual text and understand that the NRA didn't do what everyone says they did?

That won't do any good. Perception is reality. The NRA gave an inch, their (former and current) allies perceive they gave a mile, and the anti-gunners will try to take a full astronomical unit.

The Republicans that have used this NRA statement to launch a poorly-crafted bill are just building on the bad foundation laid by the NRA. What the NRA did was bad enough but what will come of it could be disastrous.

That statement you quote isn't as bad as people are making out but it's the match that can start a forest fire.

I'm not happy with the NRA right now. Not at all. I'm just wondering what to do about it.

S.1916, the bill in question, is in the Senate Judiciary Committee. Both Ted Cruz (202-224-5922) and John Cornyn (202-224-2934) sit on that committee.

Similarly, HR 3947 was introduced Tuesday in the House and is in the Judiciary committee. This bill will change 18 USC 44 SS 922 to match the Feinstein language in S.1916.

Texas congressmen Louie Gohmert, Sheila Jackson Lee, Ted Poe, John Ratcliffe, and Lamar Smith sit on that committee. They can be reached through the House Switchboard Operator at 202-224-3121.

A phone call to all these folks to register your opposition would be in order.
