I know its a long shot, but does anyone have hogs they need gone around the Austin area (would travel 2 hours )? Looking on planning my next trip, and if at all possible would rather not pay to hunt them when they need to thinned out. If I do not find any private land to hunt them I will be doing a paid trip, so if the private land does not work out and you are interested in going on a paid hunt let me know. Always good to have some company. :texas:

It may be out of your travel range, but my company owns a grass farm in Stevenville area that gets covered with hogs tearing up the place for a week or two every couple of months. The manager is always looking for people to come out at night and kill them off. I went out a couple of times last year without seeing anything, but the last trip I took, you couldn’t shoot fast enough. They would scare and come right back about every half hour. It’s a big, open, flat piece of land, and I’ve only hunted it 400yds+, but I don’t see why you couldn’t hunt prone or setup a ground blind for some closer shots. The place has some pretty impressive lights near the center which puts a lot of light on the field at night. I’ll check it out and see if he would be open to letting other folks hunt out there.

Apparently, we don't own that place anymore. Shows how much I keep up with business I guess…

I know me and a friend of mine would love to keep you some company on a hunt. I'd have to ask my wife but I would think it'd be okay with her. My buddy's in the army so he can shoot and I can shoot for a land owner to. (some land owners want you to prove you can hit your mark before they will let you you hunt so they don't get a lot wounded animals)

Bummer sounds like that would of been fun.

Cool sounds like we could have a good group now we just need somewhere to go. I have contacted one guy and am waiting on a response back. Its around $100 a day, no limit and no trophy fees.

I would'nt mind going in on a paid hunt, as long as it is reasonable, and close enough. Since I know nothing about hunting in Texas, nor hog hunting it would be good to go out with knowledgable people.

Months ago I put out a post for this very same thing. I offered to exterminate hogs and provide a 4 wheeler and all of my own equipment. Most folks are just hesitant to let some stranger out on their property. A few people with small ranches still want money to hunt on their property. I grew up shootin' and huntin' on my buddy place in South Texas(Pearsall) on several hundred acres and never had to pay for anything except corn and meals. Unforunately, it's not my place so I can't really put out any invites. Anyhow, good luck with it, if nothing else you might try the TPWD website to check for public hunts on state property.

Yeah I checked that looks like the closest you can hunt rifle with is Sam Houston National Forest. Still have to get the special license which is only $45, but that is a 4 hour drive.

I'm trying to work out some options right now. I'll keep everyone interested updated.
