I think the rise of socialists and other progressives is like the tea party rise a few years ago. They disrupt the establishment bit that is it. The difference will be that the tea party wanted everything their way and held out for "perfection" on most things which split the votes. The new left will still vote as a block which is scary. I am sure the establishment will throw some ultra liberal bills out there that the entire left will support to keep the far left happy and voting in a block. That is where the strength of the left lies. They will debate, amend, argue, etc but vote aye or nay as a group, where the right did not.

    boomgoesthedynamite,

WRONG ANSWER,. = Despite the KNOWING & PREMEDITATED LIES told by the so-called "mainstream media" about us, we TP folks were NOT interested in much of anything but REDUCING TAXES & ELIMINATING "Obamacare".
(Fyi, I was one of the FIRST TP members in Northern VA & joined BEFORE the organization had a "name". though we were in VA UNOFFICIALLY called The Virginia Good Government Assn.)

Of course INDIVIDUAL members were interested in other issues BUT the TP itself NEVER took other policy decisions AS A GROUP.

BOTH the GOP & the DP tried W/O success to co-opt us and/or "buy us off". So instead "the party elites" simply LIED about us OR just ignored our existence.

FOR EXAMPLE, at the last NATIONAL TP RALLY in DC, our rally (which had at least a MILLION people who attended) was described by ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC, PBS & "the major national newspapers" as a "very few thousand retirees. a few racists & some younger children, who gathered in Washington, DC to protest paying any taxes".
(We found it more than "a little interesting" that ALL of the TV networks used almost the same phrasing/words to describe our rally.)

    yours, satx

satx, okay thanks for that clarification. I don’t disagree with that analysis. As you may have seen from my past posts, I am one of those life-long Democrats who about a decade ago made the full move to the GOP. I had been considering myself as more an “independent” voter for a couple years before that. As they say, I didn’t so much leave the Democrat Party as it left me.

But I would observe, the Republican Party is also not without its “diversity” (Log Cabin Republicans, etc.). While a majority of staunch socially conservative Republicans would tend to reject these types, other conservatives, do not. Some conservatives welcome a more “inclusive” attitude toward opening up the Republican Party in hopes it can appeal to more voters, in order to remain politically viable (especially in light of current and future immigration growth). Some Republicans are fiscally conservative but more liberal on social issues, and perhaps to a lesser degree, vice versa. So the Republican Party is not without its full spectrum of viewpoints also.

Both Parties have their extreme wings of the Party. But yes, in terms of numerical values, the center of the Democratic Party seems to have moved further Left than the center of the Republican Party has moved Right. So, it remains to be seen if this leads to a formal breakup of the Democrat Party or (more likely, IMHO), the pendulum simply swinging back the other direction (once they loose enough elections).

The left wing extremists have taken over the party. The older school dems either quit or caved in to the extremists because they were scared of not being reelected. The Democratic party now belongs to the extremists, which is why they vote en bloc.

My family (growing up in Kentucky) was always strong Democrats - back when ‘ole Kantuck was always a “blue state” - it’s now a solid red state, pretty much like Texas. My eyes began to be opened when Clinton passed his gun ban. We ALWAYS had guns around the farm. Hell, I kept the .22 I got as my older brother’s hand-me-down next to my bed from about the age seven onwards. If your family didn’t own a few long guns or shotguns, it was considered “odd”!

When I finally decided to make the jump to the GOP, I wrote a letter to every Democrat member of Congress at the time (both Houses) - it cost me about $25 in stamps, as I recall. I warned them what I saw happening as exemplified by the gun ban. I told them of growing up as a Democrat and never knowing a time when Democrats didn’t support the people’s right to own and keep firearms around the home. Once I pointed out this fundamental (& outrageous) change in the Democratic Party platform, I had a clean conscience and changed Parties.

I had always been pretty fiscally conservative, believing you needed to “pay your way” as ya went along. And I blame LBJ’s ‘Great Society’ policies for giving us this welfare mess we still find ourselves in! I’m much more of the, “no work, no food” sorta guy. Hell... give ‘em a job sweeping the darn streets if that’s what it takes. But to give them government handouts to sit at home having babies will ultimately wreak our country. And LBJ was the cause of this mess!

    As reported on Fox:

More than five dozen women came forward Friday to defend Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh against an alleged high school incident, calling President Trump’s pick for the high court “a good person.”

The 65 women, who claim to have known Kavanaugh for more than 35 years, penned a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee to vouch for his character.

“We are women who have known Brett Kavanaugh for more than 35 years and knew him while he attended high school between 1979 and 1983. For the entire time we have known Brett Kavanaugh, he has behaved honorably and treated women with respect,” the letter read. “We strongly believe it is important to convey this information to the Committee at this time.”

The women wrote that while Kavanaugh attended Georgetown Preparatory School, an all-boys high school in Bethesda, Maryland, they knew him through “social events, sports, church, and various other activities.”

“Many of us have remained close friends with him and his family over the years. Through the more than 35 years we have known him, Brett has stood out for his friendship, character, and integrity,” they wrote. “In particular, he has always treated women with decency and respect. That was true when he was in high school, and it has remained true to this day.”

They added: “The signers of this letter hold a broad range of political views. Many of us are not lawyers, but we know Brett Kavanaugh as a person. And he has always been a good person.”

My time in KY (not counting Ft Knox time) made me believe they're just like us. I spent a week in Owensboro & they all sounded so much like Texans, I thought they were mocking me. But man, cross that river...

Well... a few Kentuckians “helped out” at the Alamo (not just those Tennesseans with Crockett). Yeah, across that river (Ohio R.), you’re in true Yankee land!

[ETA] Including Jim Bowie, born in Logan County, KY.

At least 19 former Kentuckians perished at The Alamo. - There may have been several more men from KY, as about 20% of Alamo Martyrs place that their previous place of residence is UNKNOWN.
Any number of the honored dead's Earthly names are known but to Almighty God.

The about 300 MARTYRS to TEXAS LIBERTY are now honored as true TEXICANS by birth or by adoption.

Perfect example Die-Fi. Once a relevant "left-er" of the middle of the Dem leaning pol now forced to deal with with fading into irrelevance by libtarded wing nuts. At least I will give her credit for not screaming she's persecuted by old white Male dems and elder hating youngins. Like a couple other liberals way past mandatory hospice age.

Yeah, read the article. She doesn't remember where, when, her age, how or anything else but Kavanaugh's name. The worst lawyer on the planet could tear her a new one without even trying.
Hope so. I still believe it is a weaponized accuastion and will continue to do so until there is real proof.

The truth is far from the objective of this deceptive strategic tactic.....any lie that causes even the least doubt may be just enough to change the outcome of this battle to destroy our culture, erase our heritage and eradicate freedom and democracy in our Country.

This coming Thursday, after that one idiot Senator makes his motion to adjourn, the Judiciary Committee will vote it out of committee, passing it on to the full Senate.

‘Ole Mitch should (within 30 minutes or less), announce the date for the full Senate to vote on it. He doesn’t need to worry about wrapping himself in Senate tradition or etiquette (the “gloves have long since come off”), he just needs to get it done!

In high school? I hope I'm never judged by little infractions that occurred when I was 16 or 17.
Good lord. I suppose manipulating public opinion has no statute of limitations.

In general Kavanaugh is a pretty agreeable choice for both parties.

Dems could most certainly get a far "worse" person if Trump has to come up with another potential SCOTUS justice.
