A Harris County grand jury has declined to file charges against a man who shot and killed a robber who was believed to have been armed during a taqueria heist in southwest Houston in 2023.

Not familiar w/Harris Co grand jury system; where I'm from no (defense) lawyers involved before/during... they'd come in later if a Bill is returned.

Gotta love the mention of the retards at the end - "community activists" saying that shooting the motherfucker committing what the patrons believed to be a legit armed robbery was "unnecessary" - the piece of crap robber came in with a gun. He wanted people to believe it was real. He got his wish - he just didn't realize that it meant that an armed patron would perceive a genuine threat ot his life, and react appropraitely ridding the community of one piece of shit robber.

Man should be awarded the highest civic honors possible, and have a day named in his honor - and fully reimbursed for any costs incurred during the trial and legal proceedings leading up to it. He should also be reimbursed for the ammunition used to put down the robber.

She didn't have anything to do with it. In fact, she must have declined to prosecute for it to go to a grand jury in the first place. That's the way it works in Harris County.

It was the coup de grace shot that got them upset. The problem from a prosecutorial point of view was the issue of whether or not the perp was still alive at that point. They'd have to prove he was. Otherwise shooting a dead man is just a misdemeanor "abuse of a corpse".

All homicides - justified or not - go to a grand jury in Harris County as a policy of the DA. That part is literally in the article linked in the OP. Kim Ogg probably popped a boner in her panties at the chance to charge someone for a defensive shooting, and probably wept when he was no-billed.

I used to enjoy presenting cases to Grand Juries and listing to the DA and Jury. It’s best when the Grand Jury has done a few months of hearing cases. DA’s can try to push a Jury set ways, but after a while the Jury does its job and brings up interesting things and views.

The Grand Jury had no choice. The man was still in the restaurant with a gun. He was threatening the customers. There are activists in Houston who are upset about the final headshot and think the Good Guy should be charged. These activists are upset about the Grand Jury's decision.

Now, the civil suits will be filed against the Good Guy. They are trying to "OJ" the guy.

Defence doesn't get an opportunity to present anything, but having an attorney already working on the case BEFORE you get indicated is probably a good idea.
