Ah... I just thought of one thing that may skew the results...

My red dot still has the original battery that came with it and I have no idea how much juice it still has left. If the brightness is lower than your red dot you may need to try a fresh battery. Just a thought.

I've been reading about the blueish/green color. Apparently it is due to the red coating on the front lens. This forces more of the red light from the dot to stay inside of the sight instead of leaking out the front. However, robbing the inside of the sight of that part of the spectrum, makes the blue/green stand out. It is supposed to result in a brighter dot and at higher contrast.

However, with my Aimpoint I noticed no discoloring at all.

So my red dot is either an improvement over the other models, giving me a brighter/more contrasted dot...or a cheaper version, using coatings to produce what they couldn't with more costly parts/coatings.

If you want to geek out, read about "dichroic coating".

Just got off the phone with PA: apparently this is "what the factory came up with" in terms of glass/coating.

They did offer to let me swap it out for another model if im not happy with it.

It doesn't bother me but it is perplexing why they would make this switch.

    Here you go hot dogs.

I'll try to get some outdoor pix this weekend.

Each shot FBG on left, RBG (new model) on right.

On dot shots, FBG is shown first, then RBG on same setting ((min and max for red dot (no NV))
I used the same battery in each.

You can see the poorly cut edges of the glass or perhaps the adhesive holding the glass in on the newer dot.

They either went with this tinted glass to make the dot "pop" a little more or they went cheaper on the glass. I really don't know and it sounds like PA doesn't really know either per my phone call with them.

So, I think they are both pretty good. The newer model may be a bit brighter, if you don't mind the trade off of the tinted glass.

Other than that they are much more similar than different.

I waited several months for this new model to come out...I don't regret buying it, but I'd have just bought the older version as I don't find them significantly different.

Thanks to member: acorneau, for allowing this side by side comparison.

Glad I could be of service but BC did the heavy lifting on this one. It's all for the betterment of the community.

But please, my name is Allen!

I think I'm just going to live with the tint on this optic. When shooting, I don't really notice.

Primary Arms (not PSA Dan) discusses the tint in the FAQ here. http://www.primaryarms.com/v/vspfiles/manuals/MD-ADS_Instruction Sheet_v05.pdf

I think it's basically a way to improve some things, in a cheap way.

Anyways, I'll post back here if I have any other input on this optic.

If any of you all go to the range with me and want to check this out, ask me to bring it.
