I had a friend that I have known for 20+ years who I knew was a Democrat. She also knew that I was not, but I never refused to allow them their choices. One day she reaches out to me to say that we can no longer be friends because we did not agree politically. I was kinda stunned as I never used that criteria to be friends with her. I said I was sorry to hear that but that she would always be welcome in my house.

Haven't heard from her in 2 years. Oh well.

Before anyone tells me I'm lucky or call her names, she was a friend.
I feel sorry for people who use such a criteria. A criminal, a pervert, drug dealer, Antifa or other general slug - Yes, burn em all.

A friend does not abandon you over politics.

I’m friends with a democrat. He’s in his 60’s and a good old Texas boy but we don’t let politics decide our friendship.

We hangout on the wooded part of some property, have some beer, cook some hotdogs, feed his dogs. That’s our friendship in a nutshell.

My own mother was a life-long Democrat. We just set the boundaries that we agreed to disagree and didn't ever discuss politics and such. She was also very anti-gun, and only thought either LE or military should have guns. It amazed and shocked her when the last time she visited, that her sons carried every day! Even my half-brother "Rob" was sort of shocked and he's a LE officer in Santa Ana.

Lost several so-called "friends" over the first time I voted for Trump. Lost some more the second time I voted for Trump.

I'll echo what @Renegade said, If they would abandon you over political differences, then possibly they weren't as much a friend as you thought.

Well, I just wouldn't want to be around someone who feels the need to impose their will upon me.

The older I get, the more I lean toward the Libertarian ideology of "just leave me the hell alone"!

You be you, and I'll be me. Don't tell me I "shouldn't own/carry a gun", or that I'm "dangerous to others because I haven't been jabbed"!

And my topics of conversation tend to focus on God, guns, freedom, and redneck trivia, so, there's that...

There are still people in our area displaying Trump signs and banners. Saw only an occasional Biden/Harris sign.
Going out to the farm in Lavaca county, I still see stacked hay rounds along the road with Trumps likeness painted on them, Tump flags, and banners that must be 25ft long hung along the fences. Absolutely inspiring and gives me great hope that society hasn’t fully gone into the liberal crapper. I do know one person in town over there who votes Democrat and presumable voted for Biden. Why? Because she’s always voted dem. No other reason. She forgets that the blue dogs of yore are nonexistent, and have been replaced by radical libs. In truth, republicans today are much closer to what the Dems used to be.

She was not a friend. She is a communist and would turn you in to be boxcar’d off to a gulag like a good stasi if it meant she could get a photo op of her children being inappropriately sniffed by POTATOUS.

You are indeed better off without communists in your life.
