I keep seeing those at Buds? Are those the Eagle Arms line under a different name? EXTREMELY tempting to buy one of those ARmalites!
I don't know the history, but I don't think so. These are getting good reviews and I'm trying to order some for a fee customer's and can't seem to find them in stock. Which means they are high demand and that's usually a good sign.

ARmalite introduced their AR-10 "A" model several years ago that accepts the DPMS/Magpul mags. Years ago when there were new mfgs coming onto the market place and companies were at a stage where they were making improvements they had to make their designs somewhat propitiatory to maintain revenue. Now that the market has changed more of them have come to streamline their products to accept crossover mags.

I have a ARmalite "B" model which has the lower and mag design all to itself. And yes there was a time when mag pricing was a big deal but ARmalite stepped up production to then be able to lower the cost to the customer. The best part is that they have AR-10 mags in 5,10,15,20 and 25 round capacities and have sales all the time. The most common is the 5 for $150 which is a good deal compared to where were 5 years ago.

When I bought my AR-10 I was trading up from the AR15 I had so I could take it hunting. My main concern was quality and price was second and then customer support. DPMS makes a decent rifle as I have shot quite a few of them but it wasn't built to the standard and QC of the ARmalite product. The tolerances of the ARmalite are so good that the rifles needs a ton of lube during the first 100 rounds or so to get it worn in to function 100%. Mine when through these exact steps that ARmalite and their customers said it would and now it is butter smooth and flawless. At the time I was following along with ARmalites forum sponsor page at AR15.com where you have direct contact with ARmalite. When I started to make changes to the rifle I called into the techs at ARmalite many times and received phenomenal CS. Twice I made mistakes and their tech sent me a part each time free of charge to get me running again. I have never had any other firearm mfg do that for me.

I prefer the ARmalite AR-10 for its ruggedness, precision and fit and finish. All the way down to the mags their QC is top notch and they delivered a perfect rifle. I have used the rifle for target shooting as well as hunting deer and the gun has operated flawlessly. So much so I am working on purchasing another AR-10 in a A4B Carbine where I can use the mags I have.

In terms of price I paid $1350 for mine in 2006 and I see Bud's carries the same rifle for $1250 today so no price increases at all. If your concerned about mags look at the "A" model AR-10 as it has the lower that will accept other mags.

    AR-10A

What he said. I own the AR 10T which has the SS Target bbl and National Match trigger group, wonderful rifle.

    Remmy r25 in 243.

In this part of central Texas 243 is popular. I've both fired the round and seen it being fired. I've seen the aftermath on deer in the range of 100-180#. It's fast, deadly, and doesn't damage the meat as 308, 270. Low sharp recoil in bolt actions. Smooth in semi. 243 has a much tolerable report. Think of it as a loud Pop.

I understand the r25 was made out of house. Not sure today. I was impressed on the fit and finish. I've had the water decals before. It's crazy tough. Only thing that made me double take was the weight. I guessed at about 10-12# on a bare no site rifle. Ugh

For a while ArmLite made a .243 upper for the AR 10, I just missed one the other day on Gunbroker. Its a direct fit.

I have an odd Armalite. The lower says AR-10 Magnum, lol. Not sure what cartridge it was supposed to go with, but the lower works fine with a regular AR-10T 24" barreled upper. It has a Geissele hi-speed match trigger in it. Nice shooting stick.

But I still like my 901 more.

To recap what we/I have learned from this thread. Recommendations are like a$$hole$, everyone has them (I mean that in a positive way; not meant to be a flame on anyone). The guns that came back as people like, enjoy, and would recommend are listed below, and I included a quick search of prices. Highlighting prices is in no way an endorsement of any source, just a quick look to gauge potential spend amount on popular gun selling sites.

    M&P10 (1,400-1,500 Gun Broker), (~1,300 Buds)
    Colt 901 (~2,000 Gun Broker), (~2,000 Buds)
DPMS LR-308 [a lot of variations exist] (~1,100 and up ), (~1,100 Buds)
    Sig 716 (~2,000 Gun Broker), (~2,000 Buds)
Armalite NM (~2,500 Gun Broker), (~2,000 Buds)
    POF P308 (~2,500 Gun Broker), (~2,200 - 2,500 Buds)
DPMS Panther [a lot of variations] (~1,000 Gun Broker) (750 - 1,000ish Buds)

There may be better deals to be had, but I just wanted a quick look for reference. In doing my further research, I personally am looking deeper into the POF, Armalite, and Sig. I am looking to get into target shooting at 200 - 600 yards with this gun.

+1 for the POF. Once you look at all of the features, you will decide that it is worth the extra money...

However POF customer service is spotty, and has gained a lot of negative feedback. Chances are you will never have to find out because they are that good.

If you are spending that much, just buy a SCAR 17. It is anything but an AR10, but a hell of a rifle. It is easily the best .308/7.62 I have ever shot. But is it worth 3 Oracles? I say yes.

There is no difference between Panther and LR308. Same receiver. I.E. All LR308 are panthers. Actual name of company is DPMS Panther Arms. Kinda confusing I know, but just even MORE models of the same line of 308 guns. Now there's Gen 1 & 2 receivers to confuse you even more!!

Quite a mix of apples and oranges there.
