Based on the early bills, switching retailers looks like it is going to provide some serious savings.

Yeah, 78 works for us during the day while we are home, but 82 at night? No way. We actually turn it down to 77 or 76 at night. We do try to avoid laundry and dish washing between 2pm and 6 pm. In the Summer we don't use the stove or oven much for cooking meals, it's mostly the microwave.

    Middle of no where
We've been keeping our thermostat at 77-78 in the afternoon... I'd make it go to 75 if it would actually cool down. With it set on 76 some days it says 77 in the house & runs for hours without ever getting to 76...so you got to bump it to 77 to turn off.

In the evening we bump the thermostat down to 74.

I’ve got my bill down to $400/month for summer usage...we were over $600 when we first bought the place last summer.

AC set to Eco (80 degrees) when not home. 76-77 when home.

Will be looking into solar before the end of the year.

Hell no. That AC is set to 69º when we're home in the summer. And it goes to 72º in the winter. And that ain't changing.

Gas range and gas dryer. I do that laundry whenever I want.

Is your AC unit too small for the house?
We've got two central AC units--one is a five-ton unit, and the other is a three-ton unit. The first cools the entire downstairs of the house, minus the master suite. The second cools the master suite and the entire upstairs. Plenty of AC for this house.
