There are only four US Presidents who were assassinated, in our History. What did they all have in common? Trying to get rid of the central banking system/Federal Reserve. I hope Woodrow Wilson burns in hell where Washington comes down every night and cattle prods him up the ass.

The US is DONE. Not because Trump lost the presidency, but because they've just upped the anti on socialism, REAL GOOD. My friends and family think I'm crazy. I have five kids and between the stimulus and income tax, I'm going to have a gun addicts dream bank account. Am I excited? **** NO. I'm as pissed off as I've ever been, for anything.

God help America, God bless Texas.
The real eye opener is when you find out that the people behind the central banking system own the media and are also over represented in our politics. They have a hatred for everything European and white.

Point anything out beyond that and you lose your job and livelihood. Welcome to America in the 2020s

That's what I've been using for countless years, main frame operator currently running a Z series. It still has it's place, my company is trying to get rid of the main frame. Good luck with that, lol.
Whats funny is the mainframe at my company is the only thing that works 100% of the time. Issues are always present in the 20 year old java code from the 1990s that causes the real pain, but never from the COBOL side atleast from what I have seen

My fathers company kept him on only because he was an old COBOL guy from the Air Force. He was the only one that maintained that system for them. IIRC it was all BOM stuff.

The reason COBOL stuff was solid and reliable was due to its simplicity. It just didn't do much, but what it would do it would do the same every single time. It's kinda like a four function calculator. No to mention, back then systems engineering was expensive, so the planning phase time investment exceeded the programming phase by 10x.

Modern developers and development environments are akin to giving a young, eager, and only partially trained gunsmith access to a full blown machine shop. He won't fully understand what he's doing, won't know how to run the tools, and kinda go at the project by feel. So maybe he'll cobble something together with a Dremel tool, two-part epoxy and Cerakote. It'll be pretty and probably even work, mostly.

Which is better? Depends on what you're doing, and what you're expecting. You'll notice the internet don't run on COBOL, for instance.

Main frames have come a long way reliability wise, and if you have a good system architect then your worries will be few. About the only trouble I ever see is with our tape backup system and that's currently being done away with, soon all backups will be to memory. We have a massive system, we have two main frames mirrored against each other, they are in two separate states, should we lose DFW or vice versa the other will pick up where the downed system left off. They're not even in the room with us anymore, we have them stored in what looks like some kind of nuclear bunker where many big corporations keep their own gear, impressed the heck out of me, they gave us a little tour of the DFW facility once. The facility has diesel generators that can run indefinitely or for as long as the fuel trucks can get through anyway. During the freeze they were on generator power the entire time, never missed a beat. I don't get to see the equipment anymore which makes my job a little more boring, it's for the best though.

I think it's great for a company that deals with accounting and massive inventories. Mostly a number crunching type of system. At least from my perspective that's the way I see it, I'm sure you programmers could tell us more. It's worked for my company and we are continuing to expand. We're currently a fortune 1000 company so I think it's safe to say we've been successful with it.
