One of the selling points of the M16 was its light weight. Now they're so loaded up with junk they weight more than a real rifle.
LOL! No boss I can't take this back out side it's my key chain! But I keep loosing my keys and never have the right food utensil without it.
I saw earlier on the post about the 5.56 round. It's a round made to wound not to kill that's why it was used in vietnam the idea of you can take 3 soldiers out of a fight by wounding one. quote]
As a Marine, I wanted to KILL the enemy, not have them throw grenades or fire off magazine after magazine at me until they bled out from their wounds. Just a personal preference, I guess. But this individual http://www.theguncounter.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=1470
does an excellent job of blowing away the "designed to wound" myth.
If I was to have a rifle or carbine as a civilian it would be for hunting or CQC (as home defence) or a SHTF rifle. That is why I would go with a simple redundant sight system as I posted above, a weapon mounted light of some sort (possibly) and maybe (and I mean a pretty big maybe) a laser. Anything else is just semantics for me personally.
