I was once worried about having one in my Glock’s pipe.

Someone (possibly here) said to walk around the house with it for a few days - cocked but empty. Then see how many times the gun fired on the empty chamber.

I did that for about an hour then realized how foolish it was.

If you look at vids of successful defensive shootings, things happen so quickly that many of those folks would be dead if the chamber was empty.

If a striker fired gun is that concerning, then something with a DA trigger and/or external safety is better than carrying with an empty chamber.

Only caveat, make sure that the trigger is covered.
Don't just jam a Glock in your pocket.

I think one of the reasons for the traditional Walmart walk (the place many people go to conceal carry for the first time) is that it also drives home the necessity to carry in Condition 1! ;)

    Always remember this...

I started carrying a gun in my truck before I received my LTC.

I kept it in my center console with the safety on and one in the pipe.

Be careful about driving through school zones or on school property though.

Thanks to shotgun Joe, it’s illegal for unlicensed individuals to have a loaded gun within 1,000 feet of a school even if it’s in your car and you’re on a public road.

I don’t know if anyone has been arrested for this in Texas though.

I might or might not have used to carry one in the truck before Texas even had the CHL. But they used to have an allowance for traveling, and I did cross county lines often, and also carried payroll more than once a month, so depending on the prosecutor, I might have been OK.

But again, it all comes down to what you're used to and comfortable with. That's why the Walmart walk is so popular. It's a good way to start off and get comfortable, no matter which condition you carry.

I'm waiting for my LTC to process and deliver. I'm thinking about getting used to the idea of having a loaded gun in my car, before keeping one on my person? What do you think? I have a safe I can put in it and would only leave it in the safe/car when at work. Then pull it out into the console and hang it with one of those magnets, when driving? I've heard about people new to carrying don't keep a round in the chamber until they're used to carrying. Think I should try that too, or just go cocked n locked?

    Thanks,

You either carry a gun or you don't.

What you have described are classic MISTAKES. Please take whatever training you need to become comfortable carrying a loaded, round-in-chamber weapon on your person.
Your recitation of classic errors is sufficient to make me suspect that you are a "troll".
Your post is like a compilation of known BAD IDEAS !

The only reason they are known as classic mistakes is because so many before him have made the same ones. It's not like we're charting new territory here.

I'm sure in time, like all the others, things will become more comfortable and he'll be one of us.
