I prefer the wheat-based bourbons as opposed to the rye. To me, the wheat has an overall smoother flavor profile; while the rye has a more sharp bite to it. But I like ‘red eye’ gravy...so go figure!

Nothing wrong with that. For a long time, I was a Makers Mark (and variations) drinker, kind of rebelling against a long history of Scotches.

Then I branched out into the world of bourbon and quickly tired of the NDPs flooding the market, so opened the aperture to rye.

I still enjoy a good Scotch or Rye, but history reminds me that Bourbon is truly an American spirit.

I felt the Jameson was a win when I tasted it.
I've mainly been drinking Scotch, but I picked up the Jamesion and a Teeling (oh.. that's even more tasty IMHO) last week and I like them a lot too.

Another that I like is the Singleton 12, another easy drinking Speyside and very affordable, compared to the likes of Ardbegs and such..

My two favorite Scotch Single Malt whiskies are Balvenie 21y.o. Portwood, and Glenlivet's Nadurra.

My favorite Irish whiskies are Kavanagh's Single Malt, Jameson's, and Bushmills.

My favorite bourbons are Bulleit, Russell's 10y.o., and Maker's Mark.

My favorite rye is Pendleton's Canadian,

My favorite Japanese whiskey is Kikori.

I'm a big fan of quality rye whiskey. High West and Michter's are my favorites. Basil Hayden for something a little more low key.

Would I like Larceny? Also, an out of town drinking buddy is on a big Elijah Craig kick. Thoughts?

Colonel Taylor's rye is good stuff.

Hmmm. I bet if I ask real nice, the hubster will make me a Jim Beam and coke on ice. That would just about hit the spot right now

    Opened this Friday...

It's impressive for NAS... about $20 less than the age stated Oban.

I also picked up the GoT series Singleton, and it was $10 less than the 12.... but I've heard it's just as good (possibly better). That will be busted out today while the family gathers for the Stupid Bowl.... I need something to get through it....

The Mrs. has just about wiped out the Teeling I bought last Saturday... I guess I know which she likes! Jamison Caskmates Porter is not bad... very drinkable, not "aggressive" like an Islay Scotch... :o

^^^Where can I purchase the item pictured above?
Picked up that one at Spec's in San Marcos.. they had 1 more.. and a couple of others in the GoT release line. They are slowly disappearing from the shelves at Specs. I didn't see them anywhere at the TotalWine in SA two weeks ago.. I must have been looking in the wrong place. I did get what I felt was a good price on the the Laphoraig 10 at TotalWin ($38) it's almost $60 as Specs.
