I’m having this discussion with our ATF Guy over kitchen table lunch right now.

Don’t care what ATF says, this looks very bad for them.

    And, it seems to keep happening. . . . . . . .

There’s also the issue of time.

Good guy gun owner keeps a BoS for everything he’s ever sold. Friendly ATF agent comes by just to talk. Friendly gun owner has nothing to hid. Brings out his 25 years worth of BoSs. Friendly ATF thanks him for his cooperation and leaves. Next day his door gets kicked in and he’s charged for dealing firearms without a license. They have proof he’s sold over 150 firearms. But they’ve take. This criminal off the streets.

Not saying that applies directly to this case. But this is why there’s a problem with the “dealing without a license” charge in general. There is no standard. 5 in a year? 10 in 5 years? Maybe you cleaned out the safe and sold off 10 on one year to fund something else? Who decides when you become a felon?
    <??>

So far, we don’t know if he was a licensed dealer, or not.

Okay, how about "in your opinion", would 150 guns be a high enough number?

Now, if you have an opinion, a yes or no answer would suffice.

No. Because it ignores the time scale and intent. Plenty of reasons to sell 150 firearms without the intent of using it as an off the books business. (And IMO 1 reason to do so is more than enough)

    IMO.

    Thank you.

I thought it was stated he sold 150 guns in about 2 years.
That's what I was going off of.

    Is that incorrect?

It might be. My answer is still “no” because there are reasons to sell that number without intent to profit as a business would.

what if I lose my job or have a major medical issue which forces me to sell off my collection of over 200 firearms (assuming I win the lottery and can buy that many)? Am I now operating as a dealer in your opinion?

In my opinion, under those circumstances, no.

In his case, he was making $250k/year.
I'm fairly certain that he wasn't hurting for money.
Of course, I have no way of knowing.

It was an assumption the ATF didn’t release his body. They don’t have control.

The more accurate scenario is that they were trying to find his documents that said who was executor , had medical POA, or something along those lines.

It’s possible the ATF took those documents when they did the raid. Always have two copies of that stuff in different places. And your executor should have a copy.

Did you put your dog, wife, and children in a safe place?
    <>

According to unofficial word, an Agent knocked on the door, announced “Federal Officers with a warrant”, and the occupant fired on them, no warning and no forced entry attempt.

    We should learn more soon.

FYI, I don’t approve of any of this.

    But facts are lacking here.

From what I have heard & seen; this agency is seriously abusing those “no-knock’’ warrants. These have become excuses for improper extrajudicial executions of INNOCENT Citizens.

    From the little we know:

No prior record, educated, community leader, Family man, no reason to break the law.

Why the ‘no-knock’’ warrants? Did they think he may swallow his guns ?

This happens way too often now.
