Just catching up on this one. Honestly, I've only seen one person openly carrying aside from obvious law enforcement (uniform, badge, etc.). He was walking out of Cabela's in Allen.

Guns are guns - not a big deal if you don't make them that way. Didn't English Bob say something about his pistols not being a problem if Little Bill didn't see them, or more specifically, didn't hear them?

Had a nice chat last night at Kroger in NW Houston when a young lady asked me if I was a cop because I open carry.
She wanted to know what it takes to become licensed to carry as she's been robbed before and wants the ability to protect herself.
I gave her plenty of information to chew on, my number (as an instructor) and that of another that is more active, to get training and then her LTC.

Man! That's a slippery slope covered in bullshit. So the GHRA, probably headed by some liberals, are anti gun and threaten their members if they don't put up a completely optional sign. What's next? Require them to put up a Black Lives Matter sign or be dropped? I think the power of our dollars are more important than the buying discount power of the GHRA. If we gun owners/carriers would band together and have a collective voice to boycott any store with a 30.06/07 sign, those stores would give the big FU to the GHRA. It'd take just a week or two before the GHRA changed their policy. But we'd have to have a collective voice, not just one activist handing out a business card or threatening not to eat at a restaurant when the parking lot is already full anyway. Perhaps if the Texas3006 website took it one step farther and said "...and we're collectively boycotting these stores..." and the subscribers let it be known it was happening, Texas3006 would have some serious muscle. It'd be like our own lobbying group. Either that or organize a few peaceful picketing demonstrations.

Yet another reason I have been advocating more people OC'ing. If nobody bothers, then these businesses have no incentive to remove 30.07 signage. And lobbying for a business to remove a 30.07 sign then no one OC'ing makes it pointless. Again, this is a right more people need to exercise!

Let us know what you come up with relative to organizing demonstrations and how your discussion with the owner of TX3006 goes.

I actually went into rancho grande in Tomball when I got the alert they had a sign up. Talked to the assistant manager. Told him I was just verifying because we were planning a demonstration in the coming weeks and didn't want a false allegation.

We never demonstrated but I understand they've since removed the 30.06 sign. Not sure if I helped in that.

If I get time, I'll have to revisit this more aggressively. As it is, I spend 60% of my time at work, 39% at home, and 1% between the shooting range and golfing...so I rarely see a sign actually. But it's the principle that would motivate me.

When I teach my ltc classes, I play a video of a woman testifying before Texas congress to help enact the chl laws. She survived the lubys massacre in 1991. Her parents didn't. 22 people were killed. She, a law abiding citizen, left her gun in her car. Do we really even need to discuss it past that? These stores need to watch that video.

Id be curious if the GHRA has a policy that retailers are required to post, some local rep pushing his/her personal agenda or a local store owner looking for an "out" for posting the signs. I see stores around here that arent posted and yet are part of GHRA.

here is an article copied and pasted straight from their Feb 2016 magazine publication:

Austin, Texas – Together we now have
    experienced about two months under
the new state law that gives a specific
group of individuals the right to openly
    carry guns into Texas convenience
stores. The legislation, HB 910, became
effective this year and changed several
state codes because the ability to open
carry a gun impacts significant rights in a
broad range of locations – such as legal
due process involving retail stores, bars,
and educational institutions – that are
    balanced in a free society.
The Texas Department of Public Safety
says that about 4% of our state residents
hold a concealed carry license. Only
those license holders form the group
entitled to openly carry a gun and only a
subset of that group will actually elect to
    carry their holstered gun openly.
So, since the beginning of 2016, do
Texas convenience stores have the feel of
a saloon in the Wild West early frontier?
No, not at all. Since the new Texas open
carry law has been in effect, convenience
    stores throughout Houston and Southeast
    Texas have only experienced business
    Government Relations: News Update
    as usual. Moreover, the numerous
other states that for years have allowed
open carry of handguns have similarly
    experienced no material problems.
Because the law is new to Texas, state
and local law enforcement officers are
participating in training classes and will
continue to work with retail businesses in
    a professional manner.
    Moving forward, business owners
should revisit the question of whether to
prohibit concealed guns and open carry
guns in the store. If the answer is yes,
that decision must be communicated by
posting two signs at all entrances to the
store: a ban on concealed carry under
30.06 of the Penal Code and a ban on
open carry under 30.07 of the Penal
Code, both in English and Spanish. (The
law also allows for verbal communication,
but using that option presents problems
    in consistency of communication,
    questionable effectiveness, and awkward
    customer service.) These two signs
would be posted in addition to all other
signage required by federal and state law,
including the TABC signs currently posted
    at convenience stores. Other options
include allowing (1) open carry guns and
concealed carry guns, or (2) concealed
carry guns while not allowing open carry
    guns. Where relevant, the decision
process should also consider lease and
    landlord requirements.
Let’s consider a sample of others
in the retail industry that sell alcoholic
    beverages. H-E-B and Randall’s grocery
    stores have posted signs informing
    consumers that concealed carry guns
are allowed, but open carry guns are
prohibited in the store. Kroger, continuing
its policy of tracking local laws within
the various states, has not banned open
    carry guns.
The comments above are for general
    information purposes. The Texas
Department of Public Safety publishes a
summary of the laws relating to handgun
    licensing at http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/
    rsd/chl/legal/newlegislation.htm. For
individual legal advice for your and your
    business, please consult your attorney.

    Sounds pretty reasonable to me.

Just yesterday my wife and I went to the Golden Chicken restaurant in Arlington. I open carried and quite a few saw it but there was not any type of look or comment.

Sounds reasonable to me too. And then I remember "A Few Good Men". "I specifically ordered those men NOT to give a code red." So, while their written policy might sound neutral and informative, I bet there was also a big sale on the 30.06/07 signs or some other spoken encouragement.

Likewise, it reminds me of the response I got from a local school district that said "We do not and cannot endorse a specific feed company or feed brand, so, no, you cannot solicit our students." (We have a feed store too). Then, two of my customers show me a handout they got in class that SPECIFICALLY mentions brands and stores for what to buy and where to buy it. After I called the school district and raised hell, our primary brand magically appeared on the current list.

So, taken in isolation, it appears the GHRA is neutral. But there sure was a rash of new, identical signs that popped up right after Jan 1.

Husband noticed a bit of a kerfluffle when he OC at the Angleton Burger King today when he walked in, perused the menu and used a coupon for our 15 year old to grab some grub before college.

He said that there seemed to be some concerned people throwing some concerned attitude, and before he knew it, the manager was walking around on the phone, apparently telling some higher up, that he "thinks everything is all right." My husband asked him what was going on and apparently someone had called the chain. Husband and the manager had a civil conversation about the law (manager was clueless) and husband explained it all to him and the manager said the OC didn't bother him.

But wow. Maybe it will result in something signage wise. I hope not.
