Clearly you and I see it differently. That is OK, you are still a good guy.
Houston is my home town. This means:
    1. We do not recognize the right of Dallas to exist;
    2. We hate UAL with the white hot passion of a thousand burning suns, and thats before we experience their Aeroflotesque flying experience.
    3. Did I mention Houston is really just a giant swamp that was layered over with concrete. Occasionally Mother Nature reminds us, we're still a big swamp. :)

I don't hold that against him.

Not standing up like a man and walking out but being carried out kicking and screaming like a baby on the other hand. That's just sad.

    RACER X,

And his profession (or his family's) means that he's NOT an ALPHA HOTEL?? = I know any number of physicians who are.

    Mikewood,

TRUE THAT. - I suspect that, given that he evidently assaulted a Homeland Security police officer (which is a SERIOUS federal felony, punishable by a minimum of 5 years in prison AND a 25,000.oo fine), that he will WISH that he had quietly complied with the LEO's order.

Who cares if he's a doc or not...Other than the fact he blurted out he has patients to take care of to play some sort of sympathy card. Even that is now suspect, so he gets even more shame in my book for acting like a brat.

Did the, supposed, officer handle it badly? Idk, maybe...Maybe not though. Either way, if it was an officer, I don't see how this is UA's fault one bit.

As for the CEO. If the shareholders remain happy and he stays on top of it, he'll have no problem staying.

Y'all must have some serious pent up anger against UA...unjustified dogpile if you ask me, based on the limited info we have here.

City of Chicago employee, job description says "Arrests and detains individuals found violating or suspected of violating city, state and federal laws, restraining individuals using handcuffs or other restraining devices" but does not report to CPD.

Was there also a HS officer there?

UA fucked this shit up in first place by not planning accordingly, and by not offering proper incentive or seeking more reasonable alternatives.

That goon is as much a Homeland Security Police Officer as a meter maid or a library shusher.

    AustinN4,

Not only are the Chicago airport police "sworn in, with a special federal deputation" as federal LEOs, the man in the ball-cap (and who the passenger reportedly punched in the face) was a regular Homeland Security department Special Agent

I don't know about you but $800 and a hotel seems pretty reasonable. It was reasonable enough for the other 3 passengers. And, potentially for many other passengers who have been in that situation. I've been put up for the night like that. How do we know for sure the delay was unavoidable? Hindsight is 20/20. Maybe something came up last minute.

Booohoooo, a small drop after the peanut gallery decides UA is at fault without full information. Remember the "horror" of markets in 2008? Where are we at now? Let's see where UA stock is at in 6+ months and reevaluate, shall we?
