    roadrunner,

Had "Suckie Chuckie" Schumer, the LOUDMOUTHED fool (and some of his fellows in the Congress), stayed OFF of TV & kept his 5-gallon size mouth shut, President Trump might have gotten blamed for the so-called "government shutdown" BUT now (I believe) the HATE-FILLED, ARROGANT DIMocRATS will be blamed by "the average Joe & Jane".
(It seems that the hateful DIMs just cannot avoid shooting themselves in the foot.)

I went "out for coffee" last evening with a group of my friends & almost W/O exception they said that they HOPE that the POTUS "stays strong" until the LEFTIST DIMocRATS "cave in" & vote to fully-fund The Wall.

    just my OPINION, satx

Byrd666, I'm with you. If I ever back talked to my Mom I'm not sure I'd be here today. :-) Besides I went to Catholic school just like my brother and sisters. We said the Pledge everyday and at least one prayer. I was in the third grade before I realized the long wooden rod with a rubber tip the Nuns used was a pointer and not a weapon! haha.

    To All,

Just this AM, I heard on WOAI-AM Radio that about 382,000 "NON-essential federal employees" have been "furloughed without pay". = Can we make those furloughs PERMANENT??

It seems to me that, "non-essential" means "unnecessary". = WHY are we paying UNNECESSARY employees??

    just my OPINION, satx
Those furloughed aren't the ones you would hope to be permanently cut out. Essential personnel means those that are needed to keep essential services going in a shut down period.

    easy rider,

WHO, then are the "non-essential employees" that WOAI-Radio is talking about?? - As I said, that "term" sounds like "UNNEEDED", i.e., "worthless DRONES".
(As you know, I was once "in government" in a small way & KNEW any number of "drones who accomplished exactly NOTHING good or productive.)
I will never forget an "A-A"/ GS-9, who was assigned to our office at The Puzzle Palace & who did NOTHING that was "mission oriented", spending essentially all of her time: Putting on make-up, reading romance novels, talking to girlfriends on the phone, filing/coloring her fingernails & eating doughnuts/drinking Cokes.
(If anyone asked her to do anything, she always said that she was being asked, "to perform sexually-stereotypical tasks" AND/OR "being discriminated against".)

In case you're curious, "Deidra K_____________" was finally promoted to GS-11 & transferred out of our division to a position with GSA-Logistics.
(Sadly, i must tell you that MANY such "promotions" are made to get rid of people that you cannot fire)

Early in my career working for the Navy I was furloughed for about 6 weeks. Furlough means you are still employed, but in a nonpay status. This was during the Base closure Clinton era. Although I was still employed I was able to collect unemployment, but didn't have to look for a job.

Politicians and bureaucrats and those on salary pay are not furloughed. Blue collar workers are the ones furloughed. Would you suggest shipyard workers that keep the Navy ships floating be permanently removed? Rangers fired? The government is the biggest employer in the nation and it's the small guys that get hurt the worst, not those that would be considered the fat being cut away.

BTW, I was pissed when they called us back. Ski season just opened and I was hoping to hit the slopes in the middle of the week.

You can play what if's all day on anything to justify anything, that's what the government does every day. To me it's not worth the typing time.

    easy rider,

I just HAD to laugh when you said that you were upset to be called back to work & off the ski-slopes.

Well, what you said's a pity. = I was HOPING that they meant "bureaucrats" like "Deidra, the useless." - That was what we called her, behind her back.
(I'm sure that she's now retired & on a bigger pension than I get.)

Don't get me wrong, I'm with you, there is a LOT of fat that should be cut from the government. As a government worker I was upset that those that cause shut downs and freezes never felt the effects of such things.

Obviously the government needs to exist & provide a few services & functions. If the founding fathers saw the leviathan we have today they would start a revolution. They ain't skerd.

Sometimes you just have to make up your mind that something is worth fighting for ... and I mean "fight", not like when a politician say's she/he's "fighting" for your interests.

    zincwarrior,

As far as have so far been reported, those sort of persons are GS-schedule employees & are NOT furloughed, W/O pay.

Do you have evidence to the contrary??

Yes GS scheduled employees that provide support for other GS “essential” employees are furloughed.
