    Blue is extremely smooth.

However, I don’t think it has enough flavor. I’d never turn it down. I prefer a Macallan 18 to it though.

On a recent hunting trip, we did a blind taste test of Macallen, Glen Livit and Aberlour, all of them were 18s.

Surprisingly, the Aberlour was voted the best.

I could tell the Glenlivit, but the Aberlour was the best. I would have bet money my pick was the Macallan, but I was wrong.

Balvenie Double Wood or Caribbean Cask.

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, not sure you’ll appreciate it, though.

Scotch whisky is kind of like barbecue...there’s so many variations out there it’s kind of overwhelming.

Find someone who’s done a lot of tasting, tell them your preferences, and let them make a recommendation.

I do love Balvenie as well

    I don’t think I’ve had Aberlour.

The Spec's link is hilarious. Would you really pay $200 for any alcoholic beverage. Got more money than sense. The one-upmanship in this thread is hilarious.

There’s about 16 drinks in a bottle of liquor. That comes out to $12 per drink.

People pay $9 for a warm lousy beer and $11 for a mixed drink at a Cowboys game.

Just heard of something that piqued my interest. It's a beer called 'Utopias' from Samuel Adams. The thing about it is, it's a 51 proof beer and is aged like a whiskey for two years (?) so all the flavors meld together.

Anybody ever heard of this, or tried this before?

Saw it at the brewery when we were there on tour, but still a few months away from the debut. Back when I was chasing craft beers, I really wanted to track it down, but lost interest in the hobby. I've never heard a bad thing about it.

    Happy to entertain.

I'm a big fan of quality rye whiskey. High West and Michter's are my favorites. Basil Hayden for something a little more low key.

Would I like Larceny? Also, an out of town drinking buddy is on a big Elijah Craig kick. Thoughts?

Guess I might need to make a call up to Baaston one day next week.

I like Michter’s. Not a fan of Larceny. Hayden put out a special Rye that I posted somewhere in this thread back in August; it’s pretty good.

Sazerac is a good rye, too.

I think all scotch tastes like turpentine.

Rahr & Sons Brewery in Ft Worth makes an ale called Winter Warmer. It's aged in whiskey barrels for a year then bottled. At 9+% alcohol it will warm you up. For me the first sip was kinda tough but wait a minute and try the second one. Good stuff
I used to feel that way about Whiskey... probably because I was buying bad domestic stuff. It would appear that Whiskey, much like beer... is so varied, that their is one for everybody. Maybe you just haven't found the one you like yet.
