How do you know its a handgun I could have a handgun shaped tumor. If you want to carry a sign into an establishment with a 51% sign and feel lucky that's up to you. If they have a 51% sign posted and you see Red print the whole building is 51%.

As far as printing goes, all someone has to do is say they saw it and they can ask you to leave. I received different information regarding schools. I guess the easiest way is to call a lawyer since I have TX Law Shield anyway. A couple years back they said having a gun on school grounds including parking lot and sidewalks was prohibited. I always heard the 51% rule the same way but someone at the last class I Took said if the place is a bar then it's a no but if it has a bar then don't sit at it. Maybe it was just a rule of thumb to be safe and not a law but again, I can always ask. Most of these scenarios never pertain to me so I should do a better job knowing them any way. The school grounds affects me daily so that will be on the top of the list of things to get 100% clear.

I just took the course recently so hopefully I have up to date info. The 51% signs can be skirted around in establishments like restaurants by not sitting at the bar. You're good at a table based on the definition of premise. There has been a lot more debate on printing lately. If you are printing, you are not concealed. If you see 30.07 and pull your shirt over it, it's not ok if you're printing. If you reach for an item on a high shelf and it becomes visible, you are no longer concealed. If you're ever asked to leave, never argue and just leave. I did find out that all school property is a no-go. As in if you are walking your dog late at night down a sidewalk in front of a school, you can get in trouble for that if you're carrying. That doesn't matter to most people but some of us have an elementary school in our neighborhood.
The highlighted part of the above is not correct.

Wrong. Printing is not open carrying, and there is absolutely nothing in the penal code that addresses it. If you disagree, then post the specific section that supports your claim!

Good thing you have Texas Law Shield, as you need it!

He said he was a recent LTC class attendee. Perhaps we need a new thread on the relative quality of those classes. I hate to admit it but some of them are garbage. We've seen way too many people come out of class and get things completely wrong to conclude otherwise.

110% Correct. Some (hopefully a only a small minority) instructors are completely full of shit. Most instructors I know are intelligent teachers and do a good job.

This is really bad (and wrong) advice.

An establishment that is a 51% location (TABC license gun sign red) prohibits possession of the firearm anywhere on the licensed premises. Restaurants are generally not 51% locations (gun sign blue) so there's nothing stopping you from sitting at the bar there.

If you go into a 51% location and sit in a booth not at the bar you're committing a felony.

Trying to rely on memory often leads to mistakes. My suggestion is that if you are a member of Texas Law Shield then read their handbook. It's a much easier read then the Texas Penal Codes and it also explains the laws better. Of course, their handbook is also available if you're not a member.

All of this is wrong. Who was your LTC instructor?

It appears as though I may need to do some reading and not put much stock in what I heard in class. It's a little disappointing to think others that were in my class may not go and do their own reading and be stuck where I was. Thanks for looking out. I assure you I have always put the LTC in the way back of my to-do list because of working in education. I can't carry at work and it is school policy not to have anything in your car either. The new HB1143 looks like that got taken care of for me.

Good idea. I work in education too, but fortunately at the college level. When I'm not wearing it, it's locked up. I at times have to visit schools for recruiting purposes, but then I try to park off the school property and walk.

Ben, I do agree with you to a point; but I also believe it is the duty of every LTC holder to read and understand the laws that apply to the carrying of a handgun in Texas!

My CHL class many years ago was full of errors, which I only knew because I had read the most current version of the follow...

    https://www.dps.texas.gov/internetforms/Forms/LTC-16.pdf

The academic portion of my course was a joke, not only did they foot-stomp the items that would be on the test, but I recall a "review" being on the TV while we were taking the exam.
