Out here in West Texas its hunting season and all the young ones hunt early in the morning and late in the evening.
I have some heart breaking story's about Texas Law treating these boy's like criminals.
While my nephew was in school, I told him to park his P.U. down the road at the store and walk a block to school. He has knifes, guns, and other hunting gear. In Texas he just like me, an Outlaw man that has done nothing wrong to anybody! He has also learned the disrespect law makers have for a persons Constitutional Rights! He a good kid who works hard and enjoy's hunting, fishing, and anything involved with it. He told me one time how he see's kids selling dope at school nearly everyday, but the school system cops want to worry about what he has in his P.U. more than anything else!

Also, if anyone wants to get 100 people with long guns walking through downtown Austin, you should probably look into whether you'll need some type of permit for such a group. Individually, you have the right to walk around with a long rifle, but when a group gathers...I think it's called a demonstration. I'm not sure. You'd definitely get on the news that night, especially if you tipped off the news stations that you were going to do it. No question about that. If done right, it could be a positive story. With one or two bad apples.....it could be a mess.

I've been considering this myself but waiting until I can afford some armor that can be concealed under clothing. I know if I did it myself I'd end up with at least one pistol pointed at my chest with his finger on the trigger, regardless of the law. I'd be in for it.

Anyone actually interested in organizing this? shooting for January would probably be prudent to give sufficient prep time and alert media that it's not a hostile takeover of the seat of Texas government or something. I think it'd be nice to raise general awareness, desensitize the rather liberal Austin population to visible firearms, and bring attention to an open carry bill so we'll have a choice if we want to conceal or not.

(6) fights with another in a public place;
(7) discharges a firearm in a public place other than a public road or a sport shooting range, as defined by Section 250.001, Local Government Code;
(8) displays a firearm or other deadly weapon in a public place in a manner calculated to alarm;

The prosecution would have to prove that he intentionally or knowingly did this in a manner calculated to alarm. I think it's reasonable to argue that in downtown Midland, Austin, Houston, etc. that you would easily garner alarm by openly carrying an "assault rifle with a scope".

It's a Class C misdemeanor, meaning it's a ticket at best. When they roll the SWAT team and close off half the town ... you can bet your ass you are getting a ticket.

He didn't, thus he was questioned and released.

A person openly carrying an AR-15 into a multi-story office building that is not in anyway affiliated with shooting sports or guns is sure to raise an eyebrow, as it should. I can see where he could have been charged with Disorderly Conduct, but it appears he wasn't.

Left wing or right wing ... seeing some guy in an elevator with an AR would cause alarm for me. You don't know if it's an active shooter, or if the person is just showing off his toy. I suppose it would depend on the manner in which it was carried. Frankly, a $20 rifle case could have avoided this whole fiasco.

It's not a dumb law. You have to do it with the INTENT of causing alarm ... ie. waving the gun around.

You guys should really think about the meaning of the law, and less on face value.

People want the right, but don't want the common courtesy or responsibility to uphold that right.

As an individual that sees guns on a daily basis, hundreds of them, I can assure you that it's a rather tense environment. I actually enjoy sitting at home knowing that I'm not going to be muzzle swept by morons all day, unloaded or not.
