When started teaching in Texas in 1992, the kids all had shotguns on truck racks. They all hunt out here and we never thought a thing about it. Years later, I saw a kid get busted for having shotgun shells in his truck. Go figure.

Out here in West Texas its hunting season and all the young ones hunt early in the morning and late in the evening.When started teaching in Texas in 1992, the kids all had shotguns on truck racks. They all hunt out here and we never thought a thing about it. Years later, I saw a kid get busted for having shotgun shells in his truck. Go figure.

Oh! I know!! Pick me, pick me! it's the RIGHT to be able.........
Also, if anyone wants to get 100 people with long guns walking through downtown Austin, you should probably look into whether you'll need some type of permit for such a group. Individually, you have the right to walk around with a long rifle, but when a group gathers...I think it's called a demonstration. I'm not sure. You'd definitely get on the news that night, especially if you tipped off the news stations that you were going to do it. No question about that. If done right, it could be a positive story. With one or two bad apples.....it could be a mess.
Better watch this. Happened a few months ago down town!
Misunderstanding Leads to Gun Scare in Downtown Midland - KWES NewsWest 9 / Midland, Odessa, Big Spring, TX: newswest9.com |
At what point did this guy commit a crime?
Sec. 42.01. DISORDERLY CONDUCT. (a) A person commits an offense if he intentionally or knowingly:
(1) uses abusive, indecent, profane, or vulgar language in a public place, and the language by its very utterance tends to incite an immediate breach of the peace;
(2) makes an offensive gesture or display in a public place, and the gesture or display tends to incite an immediate breach of the peace;
(3) creates, by chemical means, a noxious and unreasonable odor in a public place;
(4) abuses or threatens a person in a public place in an obviously offensive manner;
(5) makes unreasonable noise in a public place other than a sport shooting range, as defined by Section 250.001, Local Government Code, or in or near a private residence that he has no right to occupy;
(6) fights with another in a public place;
(7) discharges a firearm in a public place other than a public road or a sport shooting range, as defined by Section 250.001, Local Government Code;
(8) displays a firearm or other deadly weapon in a public place in a manner calculated to alarm;
The prosecution would have to prove that he intentionally or knowingly did this in a manner calculated to alarm. I think it's reasonable to argue that in downtown Midland, Austin, Houston, etc. that you would easily garner alarm by openly carrying an "assault rifle with a scope".
It's a Class C misdemeanor, meaning it's a ticket at best. When they roll the SWAT team and close off half the town ... you can bet your ass you are getting a ticket.
He didn't, thus he was questioned and released.At what point did this guy commit a crime?
i remember that. the guy never committed a crime. the problem is left wing dumbshit parents who never educate their left wing dumbshit children about guns.
You may think otherwise if men with AR's were pouring into your office.That is a dumb law.
ExactlyFrankly, a $20 rifle case could have avoided this whole fiasco.
You may think otherwise if men with AR's were pouring into your office.
How do I as a law abiding gun owner control who gets alarmed over my guns? I personally think that it is their problem if they don't like my gun.
That is a dumb law.
Negative....it is the job of police to respond to threats or perceived threats. You guys get so carried away with the pro gun agenda that you forget to use common sense sometimes. Dont walk into a large, public office building with an AR in your hand....this is a no-brainer.That is for the business to decide, not the government.
