Take a look at the videos posted on this thread that discuss which shots are maybe self-defense and others legally in doubt by lawyers and other informed parties.
    I will
This guys lawyer has a few options here
Deadly force in defense of "tangible" property and there is another who section that deals with crime against property after dark and it looks like it was dark.
I bet there is a plea to a misdemeanor of leaving the scene or some bullshit charge
The robber needed a clean killing and he got one

What really makes me like him is how he walks over to the table and finished his coffee before he left.

    Thats legend shit..lol

There are few options before charging, though getting on TV and professing innocence as much as possible is a good one.

There is little disagreement he had right to SD, SD of 3rd person, and protection of property.

The disagreement is how much time can elapse between rounds fired and what effort does a SD shooter have to make to determine assailant is incapacitated.

Leaving a shooting is not a crime AFAIK, in fact he is not even required to admit he shot anyone or was even there (5th Amendment and all that). If it was, it would be an add-on charge to every single criminal shooting.

Some of those get out too. I witnessed a murder when I was 8. Guy beat a sweet little old lady Sunday school teacher to death.

You can imagine my shock when I found out he did 10 years for that crime.

In case all this discussion prompts one to consider getting concealed carry insurance here is Massad Ayoob's comments on this topic again.

Bottom line from Massad; read the fine print. I picked at random images below from Google about concealed carry insurance that rank/rate what you get for the money. Do your own due diligence.

Let me say unequivocally, after years on both sides of “South Main” in Houston, that their “Community Activists” are massive HYPOCRITES !

Their opinions on incidents are based almost solely on the “races” of participants.

I know, I saw it over-and-over, for years.
