There is a lot that doesn't add up. If you manage to watch the ME answer questions all the way through something seems wrong with it.

Then again I wear 2 layers of tinfoil so who knows.

The emotional capacity of people is only so much, and as we get farther away from the tragedy, the emotion will diminish. The populace has a short attention span anyway. The news cycle goes on and something will replace the AWB and Sandy Hook stories as the lead, such as the economic shock waves that are soon to hit us.

Still, the anti's are emboldened now and we all need to be vigilant and write our reps to vote against AWB bill.

My concern about all this ban talk is the NRA and GOA are the only two people\organizations who have been vocal against it. Obviously there are millions of us, and we complain and whine to each other, but beyond that there hasn’t been much opposition. I’m worried the masses will view our silence as acceptance.

Personally, I’d like to see some grassroots opposition to the ban. I mean mass letter writing to congress, protests at the capitol and soon. Not sure who has the clout to create an organized effort, but I think it’s needed. I suspect gun owners tend to be more individualistic, and not get involved in protests, but this is a big deal.

I think too often we say “this can’t happen in America” or “they’d never try to take our guns” or “I’ll never give up my guns”. I submit that millions, maybe tens of millions of gun owners will in fact give up their guns if ordered to do so. I don’t like it, but think it’s possible. There are many more simple gun owners than gun enthusiasts.

OK, I’ll get of the soap box now.

How does she think the NFA examiners could ever handle the amount of stamps that would need to be issued if everyone complied??
They can't turn a stamp around in 6 months as it is.

Sounds like a good excuse for thousands more hard working dedicated government employees.

I'd like to suggest we get honest against what we're up against here. Those who would restrict or ban gun ownership have shown their true colors. They oppose the document that guarantees our God-given rights and if they'll destroy one amendment they'll go after the others next. "Gun control" is not about guns, it's about control. So I say we call these people what they are. They're not anti-gun, they're anti-freedom. Let's see if we can spread this terminology. The left loves labels to make stereotypes stick, so let's stick it right back to them.

I oppose Dianne Feinstein, Barack Obama, and their anti-freedom agenda.

    Read up on GCA 68.
There would likely be a once month grace period to register everything for free.
Only a fraction of machine guns got registered in 68.
Partly for fear of them getting confiscated by the guys that kept up with current gun laws. But mostly because it just sort of happened and there was no interwebz.

    Like I said: Why?

They can not trace the guns to you, and they sure as hell will not be going house-to-house conducting searches, so why register?

I sure as hell will NOT.

    Write your senators/congressmen!

MODS: If I have violated any rules by posting this here, please let me know and I will do whatever is necessary to rectify the situation.

Alright, y'all, I'm taking a stab at drafting a letter to my congressman and Senators Cornyn and Cruz. Here's the first draft:

EDIT: When Congress reconvenes on January 3, Senator-elect Ted Cruz will take over for Hutchison. Your congressman may also have changed. Send your email after January 3 to whoever your congressman will be in 2013, and to Ted Cruz. Cornyn still holds the other Senate seat. Go to The United States House of Representatives · House.gov and enter your ZIP code in the top right corner under FIND YOUR REPRESENTATIVE.

    "Representative/Senator __________:

My name is ______________. I am a registered voter and I live in your district (123 Street, City, County, TX ZIP, Email address). I am writing to express my opposition to Senator Diane Feinstein's proposed legislation--and any other proposed or related legislation that should come before you in the House/Senate--to regulate so-called "assault weapons" and "large-capacity ammunition feeding devices."

I have reviewed Senator Feinstein's proposal (located at Assault Weapons - Issues - United States Senator Dianne Feinstein) and find every aspect of it to be an unconstitutional restriction on my right to keep and bear arms for the lawful purpose of self-defense. Senator Feinstein's proposed legislation puts onerous, needless and unconstitutional restrictions on law-abiding citizens, all based on arbitrarily selected criteria that define "assault weapons" and "large-capacity ammunition feeding devices."

I will never support the manipulative actions of elected representatives such as Senator Feinstein who "never let a serious crisis go to waste" and use any tragedy as an opportunity to advance their unconstitutional political agenda. I expect my elected officials to hold to this same standard.

Please respond to this email letting me know where you stand on the issue of my constitutional right to keep and bear arms. I await your response.

    Sincerely,
    Name
    123 Street
    City, County, TX ZIP
    Email address
    "

Please offer constructive criticism on this letter. When we are finished drafting, I would encourage all of you and all of your like-minded friends and family members to personalize and email this letter to your congressman/woman and Senators Cornyn and Cruz, as soon as possible on January 3 or soon after. I would also encourage all of you to place polite phone calls to their district and D.C. offices during regular business hours. I cannot stress enough that we must be polite and professional; we cannot let emotions get the best of us.

A little update: I'm lining up people and pages on Facebook who have large numbers of fans so I can send this template for them to post up on their pages. I've already had two people with a couple thousand followers each agree to post it up on their pages, as long as they review it and agree with it first, of course. This message could possibly go out to a lot of people, so I need your feedback as soon as possible! Please help make this a good message to send up to our critters in D.C.!

An excellent letter. It can serve as a beginning. One of the most important things we can do is go visit the House reps office in our district and the Senate offices if one is near you. One thing that elected officials do take eriously is when people take the time to write and visit. It is those people they have come to learn who start to gather people for grassroots actions.
I am a member of a unioin that has spent a great dela of money and time over the last 34 years training me (among others) in political activism. They have given me a great deal of experieince in opposing Bills in Congressthat would negatively affect my job. Something I have put to better use fighting gun control during that same period. One thing they have stressed is that handwritten letters score highest on the effect on the rep level. Next is typewritten or printed letters. Phone calls and then emails bring up the rear. As I mentioned earlier, personal visits to the reps are the most powerful weight any of us can bring to bear on a member of either Chamber of Congress. Also, this fight is not going to be a single letter type, it is going to be many letters over and over. We need to get our spouses, children, parents, uncles aunts, and anyone we know who will jump in to write letters. Heck I have written them for people, had them sign it and then I have paid postage in the past when antigun bills came up.It does work folks. Let us all pitch in, let us get organized.

I am a member of the NRA, a life member since 1968, and I will not register any firearm with a Government that I do not trust and I believe that the Constitution of the United States is well worth giving my life for ! I seem to recall the Texicans at Gonzales telling the Mexican Army to "Come Get 'Em" ! I must restate registering demands, I shall not register any firearm with any government, period !
