I'm not really sure how he "interfered" with the officer.
He was not happy about it, but I didn't think it was against the law to complain?

Here's the blaze story on it, and the entire unedited video. I can't watch video on office computer, so can't see it.

Decorated Vet Arrested After ‘Rudely Displaying’ His Rifle — and Says Officer Pulled Gun on Him in Front of Boy Scouts | Video | TheBlaze.com

Thanks Grandpa. The video answered earlier question I had how they got to that point. But watching this vid made me ask, well how'd they get to that point? The description below is how:

He described how it all happened:

At about the 5 mile mark of our hike, a voice behind us asked us to stop and the officer motioned for us to approach him. He got out of his car and met us a few feet later. He asked us what we were doing and I explained that we were hiking for my son’s merit badge. He then asked me what I’m doing with the rifle, to which I responded in a calm manner, “Does it matter, officer? Am I breaking the law?”

At that point, the officer grabbed my rifle without warning or indication. He didn’t ask for my rifle and he didn’t suggest he would take it from me. He simply grabbed it. This startled me and I instantly pulled back – the rifle was attached to me – and I asked what he thought he was doing because he’s not taking my rifle. He then pulled his service pistol on me and told me to take my hands off the weapon and move to his car, which I complied with. He then slammed me into the hood of his car and I remembered I had a camera on me (one of the requirements of the hiking merit badge is to document your hikes)…Up to this point, I am not told why I am being stopped, why he tried to disarm me, or even that I’m under arrest.

well.. 16 pages of the same thought.. minus Burt''s 1963 speeding tickets of course.. i'm guessing we're all on the same page here.. LEO's "do" have a tendency to want it their way.. that's a surprise how?..

Couple decades in the prison system, knuckle dragg'n old school "Boss" for the first half, then AZ DOC went peace officer cert.. i was half way through my career, grandfathered in, and a supervisor at that point, so i stayed near normal.. (that's sorta relative) i did notice that the Inmate tickets had a tendency to be "over written" after our new qualifications..

    ie..

    pre cert.. " i seen inmate lop do'n drug's"..

post cert.. "on 4-16-13 at 0300 hrs, this Officer approached Inmate Lop to administer a UA, The UA was initiated based on my observation of the inmate being unsteady.. While the UA was being administered, the inmate appeared to be so unsteady that i terminated the UA to protect the Inmates health and well being.. At that time a finding of positive for (check all boxes) the following drugs was indicated..

I think it is more the way some might go about getting their way that bothers many of us.

If I were on the same walk or just by myself in (pick a place) and an officer at some distance(for his own safety) asked me to stop I would and most likely would reply with a "yessir" as I generally do if I hear an excuse me or any other comment to get my attention.

At that point if I were asked to lay down my rifle and step away I would have no major problem with it. I know police work is not always safe and the officer has to cover his ass.

At that point I would expect myself and the officer to move within a normal talking distance of each other and have a nice casual chat.

A lot of a persons attitude is dependent on the attitude projected to him/her. I don't believe my scenario is unreasonable. I wouldn't feel I was being treated as a criminal. The officer could explain to whomever called that everything is OK or if he just saw me an decided it merited checking out he could be aware in case there was a call afterwards.

Ding! Ding!, Winner! I've had something pretty close to that experience in the past and it went well.

I think this one will be as big as the guy up in the NW that got stopped while open carrying his rifle, and the cop was so cool about it that he even let the guy check out his duty rifle.

Here is the video. Illegal Police Search and Seizure on Vimeo

The problem arose when the man became combative about it. Had he calmly complied there would not have been a problem but wanted to assert his second amendment rights in an agressive manner in front of his 15 year old son.

I think the problem arose when the cops freaked about a law abiding citizen walking with a gun and his son.

Have you read the article covering what happened before the video starts playing.

Yes, a calmer attitude on his part would have helped him immensely, doesn't change the fact that the officers were way out of line.

True but figure in on who did what.

1)cops go batshit stupid and rough him up and stuff as indicated in the video?

2)guy starts being an ass flexing his epeen to look cool in front of his son by asserting the 2nd in an aggressive manner
