Someone on Fox just said he had been employed at a nearby waterpark as a security guard?
How the hell could he get a background check to do something like that with a dishonorable discharge and jail time?

As we've learned recently, apparently you don't need to be a licensed security guard anymore to work as a security guard.

In April 2016, Kelley purchased the Ruger AR-556 rifle he allegedly used in the shooting from a store in San Antonio, Texas, a law enforcement official said. There was no disqualifying information in the background check conducted as required for the purchase, a law enforcement official told CNN.

The POS apparently lied on his 4473.

Also his in-laws attended the church but were not in attendance yesterday. The choice of this church may have had a personal connection for him.

So pretty much the background check system didnt know this asshole had a dishonorable discharge? Once again the federal government asleep on the job and not enforcing the damn laws we already have. At least he didnt buy this on a private sale.

This will give anti-gun advocates more reason to push for stronger background checks. I am a bit surprised that he passed it. I've seen people with absolutely no criminal background get a yellow status while trying to purchase. They would have to wait a while for the issues to be cleared up.

RIP to the victims and condolences to a small Texas community devastated. May they find peace and healing in the years to come.

Yet another act of pure evil perpetrated by a sniveling coward. I hope his death was painful and slow.

Despite Antifa and other claims, there is the aspect that the church was where his ex-inlaws were normally attendees, though they were not attending that particular service (as per the Sheriff Tackitt). These would apparently be the ex-inlaws who are the parents of the wife he was convicted of abusing while in the military.

If it's not some sort of mental issue, it's the abandonment of morals.
IMO you touched on it there. Certainly mental issues play a part, but morals are not taught in many homes these days. When I was young, certainly things weren't perfect, but parents were more apt to instill a sense of morals in their children.

You could also argue lack of discipline and accountability on the parent’s part.

We both held our children accountable and disciplined them as appropriate while they lived in our household.

And for many years after, one of the two still resent us for that. She’s a teacher now and is beginning to understand.

Our other is a Ranger qualified Infantry Lieutenant leading mean in combat. He has openly said that in retrospect, we should have applied more rigor in the accountability department. I think we got it just about right with him.

The latest news I've read about this, he killed himself after crashing his car. It's not clear if he was injured by the guy who shot at him.

That's pretty much how you instill morals, like you, I am very happy my kids learned something growing up.

Easy Rider and ToddnJoyce hit the nail on the head: morality has to be taught, personal responsibility and accountability. Morality was the center theme at church services. Nowadays, religion is downplayed and demonized when people express religious tenets like the Ten Commandments. My mother had a framed poster on the wall that listed words of wisdom: one was children learn what they live.

I think the argument against more laws needs to be enforce the ones you have or figure out why the ones you have don’t work.

Irrelevant of what he checked on his 4473 he was supposedly dishonorably discharged from the AF for spousal and child abuse. That’s a federal crime. How come it didn’t show up on a FEDERAL background check. How come it supposedly popped up on a TX CHL background check (assuming Abbott was accurate in his statement that this idiot was denied a CHL)? What’s wrong with the magic federal system that was supposed to protect us that it doesn’t even know WTF is going on inside the federal system. I’d excuse it if he was busted in some podunk town that still used paper records.

The questions I would like to know: what was he discharged with. Did USAF pass the buck and just discharge him knowing he was a violent criminal or did they DD his ass?

Why didn’t a federal conviction show up on a federal background check. Are we now doing domestic fast and furious type activities or are they just plain inept. In either case why should inept people be allowed to try and make more laws??

Press briefing by LEO says he was initially shot by a "Texas hero".

Glad this is being televised live nationally.

Morality is considered a necessary part of capitalism, a la Adam Smith, and religious teaching (ten commandments, for starters) have provided a good part of the morality necessary for capitalism to survive in this country.
First thing the socialist leaning do to attack capitalism is to attack our religious heritage.
Should sound all too familiar ...
