You need to get out more oftenNever heard of a 7.3 PSD popping a spark plug. Ever.

My 04 gasser f250 has 315k and has the original waterpump! Honestly I haven't had to fix anything in the power train. (Other than a clutch). The suspension is worn out and the body is beaten to hell by now but the 5.4 just won't quit.
Got a 15 6.2 now and it's way way more powerful than the old 5.4. I get about 13 mpg at 75-80 mph and 15 mpg at 65-70.

Resale is where it will get you if that is a concern.$8500 buys a lot of fuel: 63,750 miles worth at $2/gal and 65-70 MPH! Not to mention, much cheaper oil changes...

But that gasser is getting 50% worse fuel ecoomy...$8500 buys a lot of fuel: 63,750 miles worth at $2/gal and 65-70 MPH! Not to mention, much cheaper oil changes...

A gasser with 200k is a whole different market than a diesel with the same.

Heh!
I got nearly 20 mpg coming back from Alpine, towing the same trailer.
Downhill, tailwind.
Not really. Only averaged 15.3 mpg.
The cost of new vehicles is one of the reasons a brand new car/truck/van/suv will probably never grace the gravel of my driveway. I'll let someone else take that initial depreciation hit and pick up a few years old newused.
I haven't bought a new vehicle since 2000.
A little research and a wrench goes a long way.
Last new one I bought was in '82.
Everything since has been used, with low mileage, trade-in usually every three years.
Along with wrenches the past five years, you better be a nerd ...

I have always thought the same thing. The old PSDs couldn't meet current emissions BS, and without current emissions BS the new diesels would probably get the mileage of old.
Screw all the emissions BS. Lower emissions by cutting mileage in half and burning twice the fuel, what could go wrong?
