How is an Anti-theft policy a "liberal do-gooder kinda BS policy"?

With all due respect, I love ya TR .... lol ...... I just don't understand how this policy which has already been confirmed to be an anti-theft action, keeps getting refered to like it's some sort of discriminatory, anti-gun or liberal store policy. If u don't like the policy cause u feel like they're treating u like "criminal" by asking for your license, or u just don't like that they don't trust anyone, then I understand that, completely, but it's NOT an anti-gun/liberal policy.

Here's my question....how many guns have actually been stolen from the counter at any Academy? I mean, let's think about this. Every Academy I've ever been in had the gun counter located way in the back of the store. So, I'm looking at a rifle or handgun, and decide to steal it, now I have to run through 50+ yards of store, presumably PAST several employees, after the clerk at the gun counter has yelled "THIEF! Stop that man!" A more effective, and less intrusive, policy would be to have a loss prevention employee stationed at the exit doors. He doesn't approach anyone, (not like at Sam's where they check your reciept before you can leave) but when someone hollers THIEF, he locks the doors and waits for the moron to run into them. They already escort you all the way to your car when you purchase a firearm, so anyone approaching the front doors with a weapon could be stopped and questioned.

As an Ex-grocery Manager years ago I saw people at least once a week go sprinting out the store trying to steal something, I even saw a guy stuff about $150 dollars worth of Filet minion down his pants and spring from the back of the store to the front, out the front doors, through the parking lot and across the street, and that was for meat!!!! Can u imagine the determination of someone who wanted or felt they needed to steal a gun, and I guarantee u it has happened.

It doesn't have to happen more than once at one store for several stores in suceptible areas to believe they need to implement a policy like this to prevent this kind of theft, much less to help prevent something worse if the person happened to have ammo on him and tried to load the gun.

Not to mention the fact that almost every retail store in the country has a policy of non-involvement with a shoplifter because criminals have sued companies because they were injured by an employee who was trying to stop them from running out the door, so he company says "employees cannot chase after a shoplifter" so they implement policies to help prevent the theft before it occurs because they can't afford to get sued.

It doesn't take something happening every week to justify a policy like this, I think it takes someone who has seen the things that thieves will do to understand how a policy like this isn't unnessecary, or disrespectful to customers, it's just something they needed to do to prevent a theft, plain and simple.

If u don't like it don't shop there, there's no need to complain about it as if it's this horribly disrespectful thing that was done just to piss u off and offend u.

Not that easy. Thieves are frigging sneaky. You have 2 customers with pistols out looking, another walks up and says he needs a box of WWB 45. Turn your back for one second and the thief puts the pistol in his belt and quietly walks away from the counter. Happens in a second and you might think you are observant enough to not miss it, it only takes a 30 sec head start and the thief is halfway to the door or already in the fishing gear area where he puts the pistol behind a box and leaves.
He comes back in an hour when the shit has settled down and picks it up and buys that pair of boots he has been looking at. It's gone; no chase, no running.

They should have explained the policy correctly to you instead of blowing smoke about company policy. I am not saying that it makes a difference to all but if I feel you are bs'ing me I am going to dig deeper and talk to someone in charge. I can understand if they were having an issue with theft - but THEFT OF A FIREARM? Has anyone known this to happen at Academy? If it has they should be looking at insiders for the cause of theft. We all have to stand by what we think is correct behavior and what is unacceptable - good on you for walking away and getting more answers.

I have visited a few here in DFW window shopping while the kids are getting shoes, or skateboards, or what ever they decide they need that day. (Its thier money so they spend it on what they want and where they will lol). I am always planted in the firearms section - never had an issue with the gents handing over weapons, no id, nothing but a smile and handshake. Never bought a gun from them - but have picked up deals on soft goods and such.

I do most of my firearm purchasing from Cheaper than Dirt (local purchases), Buds gunshop (online), or Gunbroker (online auction).

It could have simply been profiling as well....maybe the OP did not look to be of age (if this has been brought up before, excuse my senility)?
I don't have that problem, lol.

That's begging for identity theft. You best refuse, and consider reporting the clerk to an appropriate law enforcement agency.
Huh? it's ILLEGAL for a privately owned (non-government) business to ask for an ID? I don't think it is. Hell, if they want to hold your newborn it isn't illegal, just asinine. If you don't want to shop there because of their policies, don't shop.

Where did I say it was illegal for them to ask for ID?

Skimming and forgery scams aren't uncommon, and they usually start with someone copying your ID and/or credit card.

Why would you report something legal to a law enforce agency (if it's not illegal)

I am just confused I guess.
