Wow, I didn't know txinvestigator and Mr. Redneck were banned! Such juicy gossip. I try to go by the adage that if your "hot" wait posting until your "not". Many times I've typed scathing responses then reconsidered. As said earlier, we have more in common on this forum than we not. There isn't any reason we can be reasonable with each other. Any other type of non-sense is just plainly being a troll.

Anyway, my thoughts on the matter of how the site is run: When using someone else's property, obey their rules or leave and do not return. If I didn't like this place I wouldn't keep coming back. I'm actually kind of a tight-ass about how I'm treated at places; my boycott list probably has a couple dozen names. Can't say I've ever been treated unfairly here; actually, it's pretty comfy!

Guys, if the line is crossed, PMs go out and the poster is warned. Usually that is enough to chill the poster out. There is also a subforum you guys can't see where members actions are discussed before bannings happen.
RumRunner, I personally read every post on this board as I work from home and have TGT open on a tab all the time. I send out PMs when people screw up and toss out an insulting, threatening or inflammatory post. Usually the poster will go back and correct themselves so you won't see the "Edited by San Antone RR" tag at the bottom. You personally don't hear from us because you conduct yourself like an adult and don't insert your foot into your mouth.
Bannings are tough because they change the dynamic of the forum and it is the outspoken ones that get banned not because they disagree with someone's opinion or have different political or religious views. In the case of the ones you mentioned, WT was threatening other forum members both openly and via PM, TXI is a temp ban and MR threatened the same as WT. They take some time to get past, but the forum benefits in the long run.

I know it's easy to misunderstand why these things occur, especially without having read every one of a user's posts, and/or seeing some of the posts we catch and delete before it stirs things up. I'd just like everyone to know, you are 100% perfectly safe to voice your opinions! Don't be afraid to speak up about any subject and voice your opinions. We try to respect everyone's opinions, even if they're different from ours. All we ask is that people do so in a polite manner without attacking or threatening other members (which is what gets people banned when they don't stop after repeated warnings).

One thing I will guarantee you right here, is we will NEVER become like some of the other forums out there where the owners/staff develop a bias on a subject, and anyone disagreeing is gone. That will NEVER happen here. If there is one thing Alan and I can't stand, it's bullsh*t! That's one of the reasons we created this forum, so we could try to have a place as devoid of BS as possible. We've seen the management BS with countless other forums, and we can't stand it, so we certainly will not allow it to happen here. I hope that alleviates some fears. Lets all just be polite and have fun! That's the way I see it.

However, the others that have been banned brought it on themselves. Honestly, it kinda scares me that those people actually have firearms; as if they act the same way in real life as they did on this forum, then they are a disaster in the making...

Someone's usefulness is hardly something to weigh when it comes to a ban. TXI is every bit as abrasive as other personalities that have been banned from the forum.

Some things are black and white, some a shades of gray. "Someone's usefulness" should not count in black and white situations, but should count in the gray areas that are more common. Since he has only been given a temporary ban, ultimately, it will be up to him to decide whether or not he returns and whether or not he wants to take into account the feedback of the Mods/Admins that will allow him to stay.

I for one hope he does. But if he doesn't, its really his loss as much as ours. <shrug>

Sometimes its not just that the abrasive people need to be less so, but also that others need thicker skin.

I find most people are quite a bit different than they appear as they're keyboard inputting selves. Some not all, lots of good people on here, a few attempt to ruin it for the rest of us. Ive had the honor of meeting a few here, but not yet all.

You have to constantly rag on someone and stir up a lot of shit for a really long time to get banned. And even then, you have to break a rule first. Even if everyone hates you, you won't get banned until you break a rule.

However, they recently censored two words... the N word and the C word, so there is censorship.

Personally I don't care for the porn forum, and I do like that this place will ban a member for being an ass even if he didn't break a rule. That was always annoying, when the ModdedMustangs staff didn't ban someone who everyone hates just because he didn't break a rule yet.

I don't want anyone here to think they can't state their opinions. Discussions between members is what makes this board fun. There will never be too many glock VS 1911, revolver VS semi, blonde/brunette or redhead debates and the staff here welcomes the discussion. When a member comes off with something like "My 1911 is better than your Glock and I'll kick you ass to show you how much better", then exception is taken and we step in.

Bans are the last thing we want to do because it can disrupt the forum, but they are sometimes necessary. Know the adage about a bad apple?

I seriously doubt that they act out in real life the same way they portray themselves here. They would have been locked up long ago!
WestTexas got himself banned during my long hiatus from this site from late 2009 to late 2010, so I don't have any perspective on how he acted.
MRRedneck though... HOLYSHIT! By his own accounts, that dude has been in more physical altercations than Sylvester Stallone's typecast character! And he kicked every one of his opponents' ass. Just from that, he was about as much of a megalomaniac as Osama Bin Laden.
If he also was sending threatening PM's to people, then that's absolutely freakin' NUTS!

As far as "censorship" goes. This is a privately owned forum....the owner can censor anything they want. The first amendment doesn't apply to anything but the government.

Not a thread jack at all. We're talking about how the forum is run and what you guys think about the job we do.

This forum is lightly moderated. Much less so than many of the other forums I am on. I have received plenty of PM, texts and E-Mails from members on this forum asking about bans, thread editing and deleting trash. I am glad this thread got resurrected so that the members can ask whatever questions they want. If you guys think we are doing things wrong or you see what you think is a double standard with how someone is treated, speak up. No fear of retribution or bad treatment. I only ask you to be civil about it.
